You're correct, it depends on the jurisdiction and the definition of the arrangement in place. Which means oral agreements can be legally binding, but have to be extensively proven to be an agreement.

It’s mostly unwritten. The fighter gets paid, then pays taxes (which could be up to 30%, then he has to pay the trainer 10 and everyone else). By the time he’s done paying everyone he’s down to maybe 40-50% of the gross amount. What he should do is get a good accountant and also have the promoter pay everyone separately so that he’s not accountable for their taxes.

Sad it had to end this way between 2 brothers. 🤷
