In my opinion Ertl American Muscle are right up there with other premium brands. comparing to Auto World M2 Schick Revell MiniGT Kyosho Dydo and TLV #ErtlAmericanMuscle diecastbrandcomparison

Great video! Brings back memories. I have a few of the American Muscle 1/64. Very well done for the time period. The 69 Mach I is one of my favorites. Highly recommended.

Hey Jose, is your Johnny Lightning Tasca Ford Thunderbolt true 1/64 scale? I would like to get it but only if it is true 1/64 scale.

Hi Joe. I do not have any ERTL but I collect the Mercury Cougar brand. I do really like that Eliminator. I'm going to look for it definitely! Thanks for sharing!

Right on! ERTL Ddid great models. The market wasn’t ready for them back then. If they were in the market today producing cars, they would be a hit.
@xltoffroadbear3 жыл бұрын
So, I'm not 100% sure, but watched Champion DJK and he thinks that Racing Champions Mint uses some of these old castings. He showed some Pontiacs that had the very detailed base. Thanks for watching my friend!

Details are always great! I love how the exhaust seems to go under the rear axle. Yeah M2 does have a quality control issue, and even if they are assembled right in the factory they get damaged in shipping. I am always checking the M2 JDM cars in the store and they always seem to have a missing mirror or cracked/ detached bumper. The Ertls do compare well with the others, I’d say they are 1/64. I may be biased towered TLV but they are the best, no question. Yeah that’s me being biased 😂
@xltoffroadbear3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Alex! Yeah TLV is one of the best, but the price and hype turn me off. For 20 years ago, these Ertl American Muscle were the top tier, especially considering how the mainline Ertl were not great castings. We all have our bias, it's how we choose our favorite brands. Thanks for watching!

That cougar by ERTL is amazing, I am so grateful to have found 6 of these cars, just got a M2 68 Firebird in blue with a black vinyl roof. Schuco did do opening parts at 1:66, I have quite a few of those, but they are tough to find and often command high prices. My M2 mustang mach 1 has opening doors and hood, that is almost as good as your 100% blue hotwheels one, I like the M2 more because of the opening doors, I have looked into buying a blue 100% mustang and the import and postal charges are just too much. I would and do recommend ERTL muscle, the only brands that come close are hotwheels 100%, M2 and Autoworld. There is another British brand "Lone Star" diecast toys, they are all metal, have opening doors, bonnets and boots, screwed together. They are good quality and I have found about 6 of these, but they are often missing the bonnets or boots and fetch high prices, but check them out another quality make that is no longer made.

ERTL still makes flatbed trucks and farm or construction related vehicles ...that usually come as a set...I know that I saw those sets in Hobby Lobby in 2020 and Walmart in 2019 ...occasionally there is a Ford F 150, 250 , or 350 series truck in those sets...with inserted headlights ...did they get bought out by a another toy company...I don’t know...Revell still makes models and I think slot racing cars but I have tried to get a hold of those Revell low riders because they had a relationship with Low Rider Magazine and they had replicas of real cars with adjustable suspension , opening hoods ,:opening trunks, and a couple of them might have opening doors too but just like the General Lee , the Batmobile, and Black Beauty...if you find one online...that is 50 to 100 dollars ...even some of regular muscle cars and luxury cruisers are 30 to 50 dollar cars...maybe E Bay is different but I heard that there are some con artists on there ...I already ran into a couple of Amazon but I usually get reimbursed with them...I might reach out and try to see what I can find...thanks for sharing those diecast gems!

Thanks for watching my friend! So, I think Ertl American Muscle castings are now part of Racing Champions Mint. I don't know who makes the main line of Ertl, but I've seen them at Hobby Lobby too. Prices on eBay can be wild, I try to wait it out or make an offer.

As I recall, the American Muscle series from Ertl was only produced for 2/3 years and I believe that was the early 00's. Like 01-03?

I only have the old el-cheapo 1980s ERTLs (YOU are a lucky man) So, who bought out ERTL? They have to have gone somewhere. BTW, I bought a Greenlight 1984 Jeep Wagoneer earlier. I Know... AMAZING that I found something cool on the pegs, lol.
@xltoffroadbear3 жыл бұрын
I think Racing Champions bought Ertl American Muscle's molds. I saw Champion DJK opening some cars and he showed the base and said that it was obviously an old Ertl casting. I'll look for the 84 Jeep.

@@xltoffroadbear Ah, ok. Cool. Maybe they make a version of American Muscle. BTW, the Jeep is in a Tow and Go set. I saw it at Hobby Lobby, but luckily I also found it at Ollie's for less than half price 😺👍

Great video! Do you know is that Ertl Ford Thunderbolt the same casting that Johnny Lightning uses? Is the Johnny Lightning version true 1/64 scale?
@xltoffroadbear2 жыл бұрын
I will double check, but I believe it is true 1/64. The casting has been used by Johnny Lightning most recently, but I believe started at Ertl, the Racing Champions. It's close in size to the Hot Wheels. I will break out the calipers to measure next video Thanks for watching!

10 - 15 years? Try 20 😳 that's why the current state of 1:64 diecast is sad
@xltoffroadbear3 жыл бұрын
Wow, you're right, I forgot how old these are. And yeah, the best period was late 90's to early 2000s, especially the Hot Wheels 100% series. Thanks for watching!
@seismic64353 жыл бұрын
@@xltoffroadbear yeah, but the only problem was the selection. They hardly did any (then) modern cars in the 100% line; they just mostly did muscle cars. It made sense considering the main demographic, but it sucked for us younger buyers back then. Greenlight is the closest thing we have to that era with the price-point to detail ratio. Too bad their QC suffers so greatly.
