Awesome.They cannot kill this music much as they try.Ervin surely was a genius of major proportions. This is clearly evident here.in this gem of a transcription.

As I am not the pianist here - and in order to minimize uncertainty - I am reposting this at the top level. Ervin Nyiregyhazi is the pianist. This is an outtake from a CTV documentary about him.

yes he crashes into the piano but he does not break it and he does not hurt himself!!!! So it is not crazy but getting out of the piano the maximum possible.... And thats genious, only Horowitz did go to these extreme too : see and hear the Vers la Flamme Horowitz recorded at his home. You will find a lot similarities....

Nyiregyhazi had it ready in his head... like Mozart. he just let it through his fingers. no sweat needed in forming the piece.

can imagine living next door to this pianist? and, come to think of it, now I know who Les Dawson's piano teacher was.

If you lived next door to him, you wouldn't even know he was a pianist. He didn't have a piano most of his life and said he didn't practice

Amazing that the title of the piece can be questioned when it is clearly and correctly posted above. The piano is of course in abysmal condition, and this not one of Nyiregyhazi's better performances, but does show sensitivity and dynamic range in the last minute or so.
@user-zz2dx3qf7u2 ай бұрын
It's true no one addressed the piano's lamentable condition in the first place in the " criticisms " I've had occasion to read. This is from the television document, no *

hello Jero, it's been a long time... I have a bad news for this recording; from an authoritative source I learnt this recording is from M. Sayer an imitator of EN. EN never recorded it !! Somehow this gives a little idea of the power EN would have developed in this piece, with a much better cantabile of course !

This is vulgar. Where's the subtlety? The pathos? Anguish need not be expressed forte to fortississimo. This scene of the opera calls for much greater dynamic contrast and control that is missing entirely from this performance. By the time the piece reaches its climax you are already so worn out that the effect is completely extinguished. How anyone can be entranced by this playing is baffling. A disaster on all fronts. This is a genius that should have remained lost, as he was one in name only.
@gwedielwch11 жыл бұрын
I started with an open mind - and rather liking the huge crashes and the emotional drama. But after a while it got tiring and irritating. Odd musical phrases emerge every so often from the racket ... but it is not enough. I am afraid I did find listening to this both unpleasant and, as far as I can assess now, unrewarding.
