ES-30 electric aircraft from Heart Aerospace is set to enter service in 2028. The plane can seat 30 passengers in a two by one configuration and fly up to 124 miles, or 200 kilometers, when in all electric mode. The range can extend to 249 miles when the battery is supplemented by generators and 497 miles when the capacity is limited to 25 people.

Why no Solar Cells on these wonderful wings and fuselage? Why no onboard generator running on Hydrogen? Why no skirts or ducting on the propellors to increase efficiency? Why no propellors spining on Hydrogen flow before it hits the generator? Why two (no AI?) pilots on a short flight?

There are a thousend cases where such a plane would be perfectly usable, islands, environments like northern europa where many airline distances are in that range, and don't forget, the batteries are improving as we speak, expect double range within 5 years, triple range within 10 years, maybe much quicker. A few weeks ago serial production of new batteries with double energy density as currently used batteries has startet, 500 Wh/kg instead of 250 Wh/kg (corrected, was a typo with 25 Wh/kg) , and not any lab theroretical stuff, actual mass production that you can buy, and bet the Aircraft industry will go for it.

An Aircraft that can "Climb to 20,000 Feet" (Above Sea Level), can go "Over just about Every Mountain" except *a few on Earth, meaning, where you have to Drive "Around" the Mountains, (taking 3-4+ Hours) they can get you there, in 30 Minutes! Plus, you Cannot Drive A Car (or Truck, Train, Bus, Etc.) from Victoria, British Columbia, to Abbotsford, BC, BUT you can fly a Plane, like the Cessna 182 From Victoria to Abbotsford, in 30 Minutes! (Per My own Flight Experience!) And, there are Islands, with Airports, that this Type of "Short Range" will "Suit" beautifully, And might even, in some cases, be Overkill, for "Inter Island Flights!" Orkney Island's, come to mind! Obviously, the Philippines! Maybe even Hawaii! Your thinking is defined by your Experience, obviously, but is limited to your experience, as well! Think outside your "Box" and you can discover many interesting ideas, situations, and opportunities! Remember, in the year 1900, "Heavier Than Air" Aircraft, weren't yet Working! But, by 1920, there were A quite large number of them, flying a fewer number of people than this design, and distances not much better! So, stop thinking about trying to replace just the Boeing's & Airbuses, and Douglas / Macdonnell Douglas Jets! Of course, modern Day Liquid Fueled (Gasoline) "Ultralights" can often fly Faster and Farther, and in Greater Comfort, than a Wright Flier did, even by 1904! And some even Carry Two People! (Unlike First Wright Fliers!) The Need for Reducing Pollution, in Aviation, will be a portion of the Drivers to such Designs, but the Need to reduce Operating Costs, is even more Well Defined! When Airlines Replace Equipment (Planes), just to get a 6-7% Fuel Cost Reduction, you know what drives them!

Regarding the limited range; we need to start somewhere. We can't expect electric/hybrid aircraft to instantly be at the same level as the combustion airliners that have been developed over a 100 year time period, we need to invest time and money in order to make electric/hybrid planes competitors. These models looks like a good place to start, like for short city-hopping commute travel.

Sounds like an AI voice which would be why there are some bad pronuciation midtskes. Fantastic project though. A huge percentage of global flights are short haul flights so the range isn't as much of an issue as some here seem to think.

@@julianbiggs2220not always possible. You also need very high demand for that to be viable. You are not going to build a rail connection for about 100pax a day

And, the "Chunnel" (English Channel Rail Tunnel to France) didn't Exist in 1970, when we had already put a Man in Space, Orbited Him, and sent him off to the Moon, for a Close up Peek! Just like the "5 Minute Mile" was the Fastest A Man Could Go", until it wasn't! Thing Do Get Better, with Effort, Inspiration, and Investment! People who easily give up, do nothing to make anything Better!

​@@daviddanser8011- Exactly! Even if Fares were "Adjusted" to suit that "100 Travelers Per Day" it could take a Century to get a "Return In Investment!" Plus, it can't be used for other Destinations, once built, but, an Aircraft CAN be used to service a Variety of Destinations! The Same Single Aircraft! It could service one place, once a Day, or twice a day, and be all that needed, but still go on to serve Multiple other sites, in the balance of that same day! Rails aren't as versatile, in that aspect!

Choices are: "SAF" (Sustainable Aviation Fuels); Standard Jet Fuels, fueling an "APU" (Auxiliary Power Unit); Hydrogen (Powering either a Conventional APU, or a Fuel Cell System). Obviously, on Wing Solar, is not likely to be of much benefit, for Flight Power, but, could be used to Charge an Auxiliary Avionics Battery, for Backup, but is probably not in their plans, yet! However, such is a viable benefit for smaller 2-4 Seat Aircraft, with more "Glider-Like Wings!"

Based on the expected development of future batterys.... They already gone from fully electric to hybrid, the next step is to ditch the batterys altogether and add turboprop engines, and then, maybe then it will fly... (if they don't waste all the money on making promo films)

I feel a better model would have the four electric motors powered by a fuel generator and batteries are aux only. Battery degradation will prove to be costly and batteries become deadweight in planes.

As battery technology improves to increase energy density while decreasing weight the planes will only become more capable.

In the sense that Fuel Burn does "Reduce Weight" you must carry, that is True. However, airlines are seeking to reduce Operating Costs, which is mostly tied to Fuel Consumption! So, while your "Backup battery" idea, would "Work", it's more like a standard "Prius" Hybrid, than this, that is more like the EREV Chevy Volt, that Priorised Battery Electric, and the Generator would start up if you needed more than the 35-40 Miles Range (50-55+, in the Second Generation Volt)! And, we will see probably a few dozen different designs arrive in this Flight Power Transition, before it gets to "Best!" For example, maybe a Blended Wing Design" would be better suited to the "Battery Powered Flight" game, than the conventional Tube & Wing Idea? I have already seen some action on the Blended Wing Aircraft, from multiple Companies! Some are leading to even "Tail-less" Designs!" But, Electric *IS* going to be involved, more and more, for Propulsion!

"Optionally" Hybrid! It can be equated to a "Chevy Volt" that Priorised Battery Electric, but cut in the Generator, if required, to Extend The Range! So, it is an "EREV" (Extended Range Electric Vehicle) Equivalent, rather than like the Standard "Prius":that depends on the Fueled Engine, for anything over a Km or 2!

EV have only 20 parts vs a combustion engine car that has 2000 parts. I would assume the same for planes as well. Less moving parts less problems.

Utter and complete nonsense. We waste precious time and treasure on silly things like this. The laws of chemistry and physics change for nobody. Battery tech, by weight or volume is between 10 and 100 times less dense than Jet A fuel. The typical pitch is that this will enter short haul commercial service by 202x. While it may be possible to make a short haul flight, the aircraft that run these short flights have to do so all day long, not just one or two flights. Fortunately there are lots of idealistic investors, government grants and virtuous airlines that want to make it look like progress. The FAA has a hard time accepting electronic ignition over a magneto. And you think this stuff will fly with the unknowing public? I especially liked this comment from below "Norway can't operate "Battery-busses" In winter ! - It's a Joke for now !"
