I am a fan of the character Escanor without watching a full season of the show, simply from a writer's standpoint. In that universe's own laws, in the presence of the 'Commandment of Truth', Escanor states "I am the one who stands above all tribes." and then proceeds to 'body' or "...destroy his opponent without even attacking." two of the strongest opponents the anime series had given up to that point. He is the "Lion sin of Pride" not because he is being boastful. He's actually just being honest when it seems like he is bragging. He's like One Punch Man in uniqueness of character attributes.

I agree with that Vegeta take though. Vegeta makes outlandish claims, gets absolutely clapped and clowned on, and then either makes a partial comeback or Goku saves his ass. Escanor makes an outlandish claim and immediately follows up on it. Vegeta makes himself seem like a god and gets whipped, Escanor says something as simple as, "I hold no hate for a being weaker than me; all I feel is pity" and immediately proves that Estarossa is indeed weaker than him, and by a significant margin to boot. The closest Escanor ever got to Vegeta levels of arrogance was when he said, "Apologize to me that you were born into my world" and even then literally nobody could stand against him to say that it wasn't his world to begin with. TL;DR - Vegeta highballs himself constantly out of arrogance, Escanor is dead honest in his claims but they are so grandiose that they seem like bluster and bullshit.
