This is the story of 'Sarah'.
She's a young woman from Ghana who came to Lebanon just over a year ago and who says she’s been subjected to abuse, sexual assault and hasn’t been paid in months.
With rare access, Sky News has filmed her escape to freedom as she flees the household she’s working in, and tries to find a way back home to Ghana.
Sky News asked the Lebanese Ministry for Labour for an interview. It was not granted.
But in a statement the country’s Labour Ministry said: "We strongly believe in abolishing Kafala."
The statement continued: "While extremely essential, it is a complex process that cannot be achieved tomorrow; however we are following the road map that was set by a committee of NGOs and local and international organisations (ILO, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Legal Agenda, Caritas, Kafa) to reach this milestone.”
“We are currently finalising the standard unified contract that addresses inequalities, in line with international labour standards. This unified contract is considered a significant progress towards dismantling the Kafala system."
