Esee 6 really stands out as a hunting knife . Can’t count the number of critters my Esee 6 has helped put in the freezer . IMO it’s the best camp knife out there for the money .

Have you ever field dressed a deer with your ESEE 6? How did it go? I haven't had the opportunity to try that out yet. I usually use smaller blades.

@@pennsyltuckyreb9800 I’ve cleaned deer and hogs with it by itself and it’s good at its just a tad large . The Esee 3 is better for skinning so I use them both for breaking down game . The 6 really stands out as a butcher knife . It’s my go to for steaking out hams and back straps .

I just stripped the coating and started striking the spine with flint and chert 😁 which does get decent sparks onto charred materials. Once the spine gets chewed up from that activity it will also strike a ferro rod very well. My RC-6 (ESEE 6) is ugly as sin today but it's one of my beater blades that never dies. Still takes and keeps a razor edge as well. Not a fan of finger choils but I deal with it.

As a reminder for future viewers. ESEE Knives are NOT differentially heat treated. They are oven controlled and quenched evenly by Rowen. They are hardened to 57hrc. A bit soft but in return you get a tough non brittle knife that easily sharpens up. Plus, ESEEs warranty is second to none.

I see SO many comments obsessing about this.... I've started hundreds of fires with a Ferro rod and not once did I use my blade to do it. I use a striker or my can opener tool, its small and can be tucked into anything or strapped/taped anywhere. Plus its easier to get the shavings where you want them and direct sparks.

I like the rat7 with the custom sheath I got off eBay. I’m not too sure if the blocky handle on the rat7 isn’t a bad thing though. I wanna score a esee6 so bad. Next blade for sure.

I have the junglass and I just use other tools to strike a Ferro rod. I carry a mora eldris and silky pocket boy in a pouch attached to it so have two good strikers with it that also serve other good purposes that supplement the ability of the junglass. I want an esee 6 too so of I get one I'll just carry other strikers with it.

You might need to consider the Cold Steel SRK when investigating the ESEE6. The SRK offers some serious advantages.

@@jeremybryant5778 Have you had a look at the SRK, sabre grind in CPM-3V? Incidentally, what is it that the ESEE does better that attracts you? I'm just curious, as people's tastes do differ. In sabre grind it should split better, but the SRK is not really a chopper, but that's for saws anyway. Thanks for the reply.
@jeremybryant5778
@jeremybryant5778 11 ай бұрын
@@dennisleighton2812 actually I wouldn't mind trying that version of the SRK. But personally I like the esee better because it's a full profile tang with micarta scales so it's gonna be a bit more robust during batoning. It also chops better than the cold steel with it's wide blade. The SRK will likely out split it tho like you said. Honestly I tend to just prefer flat grind over saber, but some people prefer saber. I like the exposed tang pommel on the esee as well. Esee also has the best warranty. Cold steel puts out great stuff tho

Honestly a striker or multi tool is much easier to direct sparks with and control fine shavings. I don't get why people would rather take a file to a perfectly good knife than just tuck a striker into their sheath/pack.

Thanks for the video. I would really like to get one, they are fairly priced and I like that they offer the pouches and accessories and options. I was wondering what your thoughts are on the Benchmade Bushcrafter 162? that is currently the most expensive knife I've ever bought. But I haven't had a chance to put it through all it's paces yet. From what I've seen on KZfaq, they have been all positive reviews. I know the sheath that comes with it sucks. I had to find a custom leather sheath for it that cost half as much as the knife. (Very frustrating! 😡) God Bless.

The 162 is a good general purpose woods blade. For me the handle always felt too chunky, but if it fits you well then it’s a solid blade

Other than the fact that ESEE doesn't put a 90-degree spine on their knives (why ESEE, why?), you really can't go wrong with ESEE knives (especially for their lifetime warranty) AND of course replacing the older style scales from the knife connection!

The guys at Esee understand putting a 90 degree sharp spine is simply a bad idea. They actually use blades for long periods of time.

I still wait that ESEE will make a version without that useless paint and without blade choil. Why almost all knife manufacturers paint their knives these days and mutilate the blades is a subject to be studied further.

Best bung for your buck? 218 Euro here. The Mora, yeah, that's the best bang for you back. I can buy 12 Mora Companion Heavy Duty's for 1 ESEE-6...16 regular Companion's. For chopping , best bang for your buck, Tramontina, Fiskars, Imacasa etcetera etcetera. And then the annoying useless blade choil. Hate, double hate. Get the edge right to the handle, where you exert most force doing powercuts. As in Mora / scandi knives. The Grinch. Kullervo agrees as well.
