Watch to find the #1 mistake students make when talking about the future! We definitely use will, be going to, and present continuous to discuss the future, but it depends on how much information you have!
We use the future tense "will" in English Grammar to talk about instant decisions in English. This is a common English mistake, as we do not use "will" to talk about our future plans.
I will have a coffee.
I think I will go to Thailand for my holiday.
We use the future tense "be going to" in English Grammar to talk about future plans, or intentions. These are things that we have already decided to do.
I'm going to watch a movie this afternoon, but I'm not sure what time.
We use the future tense "present continuous" to talk about future arrangments, plans that are 100% confirmed.
I am meeting my friends after work.

All teachers and books use this example when they talk about using be going to in predictions 'Look at the dark cloud It's going to rain'. I seem I can use the grammar structure only in this situation when it's going to rain :)

😂 I think everyone can understand "evidence" when rain clouds are the example. That's why it's the go-to example for most of us. Other examples teachers might use are usually sports examples. My favourite team is playing tonight. I think they'll win! (That's my feeling!) That team is definitely going to win! They're five points ahead! (Five points ahead! = evidence)

You're right! We usually don't teach "present simple for scheduled events" to lower level students, but it's definitely correct. Your example is perfect. We use it for train, bus or plane schedules. Also for trip itineraries, movie start times, etc...

Yep, there’s future continuous and future perfect. That is for another video!! Here the main point is that we don’t use “will” to talk about future plans or arrangements.

Will be doing is Future Continuous. Now: I am teaching. 6pm: I will be teaching. We use future continuous to talk about what we _will be doing_ at a specific future time. A: Can I call you at 6pm. B: No, I will be having dinner. Hope that helps :) Can you try to give me an example?

Thank you a lot for making this video, but i still have a problem with something. All of what you said in this video works well when it comes to talking or answering questions, but the problem is when you're asking the question. Here is an example: *What are you going to do tomorrow? *What will you do tomorrow? *What are you doing tomorrow? You're asking about intentions and arrangements at the same time which means that you can use "be going to" and "the present continuous". So what am I supposed to do? Please answer because this question caused me a lot of trouble >_

All of those questions are fine! "What are you doing tomorrow" is the most common. "What are you going to do tomorrow" is also fine. Usually I say this when I know you have a plan. Tomorrow's Saturday? What are you going to do? "What will you do?" is used when I know you don't have a plan yet and are deciding now. Maybe you have a problem! Your boss wants you to work overtime. What will you do? Say yes and make your boss happy or say no and make your wife happy? Difficult choice 😂

That is called the future continuous :) We are going to be teaching English live on Friday. We use this grammar to talk about what will be happening in the future ;)

A plan is more definite than a decision. But a decision usually becomes a plan. I think I’ll go to the beach (decision) What are you doing later? I’m going to the beach. (Plan)

Good question. Maybe I don’t know what I’m going to do in the future, maybe 6pm. Someone asks me what I am going to do and I can reply with, (I’m not sure) but I’m going to be doing something. Something maybe = having dinner, watching a movie, etc.
