20 years of baseball on ESPN. And the theme back then was much different.

I still would have wished that ESPN would have done a retro night for Sunday Night Baseball using this intro and graphic style for Sunday Night Baseball's 25th Annversitry. (Sorry for the misspelling).

I agree, ESPN should've done a montage of all of its MLB openings from 1990-present, but, for some unknown reasons, that didn't happen, and quite frankly, it never, ever will!!!

Back in those days, ESPN Major League Baseball had big names such as Chris Berman, Joe Morgan, Gary Thorne and Jon Miller. Nowadays we get Dan Shulman, John Kruk, Aaron Boone, Kyle Peterson, Buster Olney, Karl Ravech, Nicole Briscoe and an unlikely analyst in Jessica Mendoza. BTW, ESPN needs to demote Jessica Mendoza to co-field reporter with Nicole Briscoe (and on occasion, Lisa Kerney) and bring along David Ross as the second analyst on Sunday Night Baseball!

The intro to Baseball Tonight on ESPN was from 1990, the final game of the 1990 MLB season featuring the Chicago White Sox and the Boston Red Sox; taking place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts.👍

This was the last time until next year, 2011, that the regular season ended on a weekday.

I still get goose bumps from this game. Mind you that I didn't like the Red Sox winning this game, I wanted Toronto but when after Brunansky's catch, they played Steve Winwood's "While You See a Chance", it really touched me.

So "Baseball Tonight" was the title of their game coverage then as well as the highlight show?
@BaseballDaysofYore13 жыл бұрын
@sctvhound Thinkin' of that the other day as well in reading about the new dumb schedules for next year. Baseball tradition is to end the year on a lazy Sunday bidding farewell to your team (if you're not a playoff team). Not stuck at work missing it. But yeah, the '90 lockout forced the season back 3 days resulting in the Wednesday finish.

How is it that this intro is better than anything ESPN does these days? It makes me want to keep watching...

They felt once they broke the seal on the home unis, no sense in keeping the roadies in mothballs until '91. Terrible choice. I have always hated the White Sox in black. Glorifies their cheating past.

wow sports stations put so much more time and creativity in theor theme songs in the 90s. the songs were more dramatic and really felt like a professional presentation. i still love baseball tonights theme and show but alot of songs have changed on espn, nbc, cbs, etc. They've become more boaring (like alot of diehards would say nothing was better than the old NBAonNBC and NHL on Fox songs)

Do you happen to have any highlights from this game? I've been waiting 20 years to see it again.

@DSW6698 I do and have loaded the whole thing with Brunansky in the corner, but the YT dorks always take it down so I've stopped trying to add it. Gets my channels suspended.
