Mendy is unstable, nerves and too slow to pass when there’s still options, until 2 players run unto him and deposed him or make him pass back under pressure. Marcelo is far better in attack and ball control, but can’t run back to defend. Yet Mendy is quick and can keep up with any fast wing out there, but when having possession, he’s awful.

We had no business letting in 4 goals... had it not been for Benzema & Vini's brilliance, conceding 4 would have = getting knocked out from 1st leg. Mendy was awful (as always is against pressing teams) takes too long on the ball, gets caught & boom, trouble! Casemiro was badly missed as the back 4 were severely exposed. Kroos was passed around so easily he must have felt dizzy. I hate the fact that we always start slow and then chase the game from behind. How about going for it from the onset? City were city, they played their way and had their way almost throughout.

I really don’t understand Ancelotti’s team selection in this game. Playing both Vini and Rodrygo with no defensive mid vs a team as dangerous as City was always a recipe for disaster. As a Chelsea fan watching the game, I'm just in awe of Real Madrid because they are not a great side, I feel like you put them in a 38 game season with Man City and Liverpool and they finish 3rd by a distance, they're probably on the same level as Chelsea, maybe not even that because of how over reliant they are on Vini and Benzema and how much Chelsea outplayed them for 3 halves of football. But here they are in Manchester, outplayed for the entire game, could've conceded 6 or 7 goals but just needed 2 moments of magic to keep themselves in the tie, it's truly incredible how they defy football tactics. It makes me love the game more because you can just take your tactics and shove them where the sun doesn't shine if you've got players up top that can produce like Vinicius and Benzema. The guys in the studio are criticizing Laporte for the Vini goal but I remember in the Chelsea games, Benzema got 2 goals because one of the CBs got pulled over to Vinicius in pretty much the same area and he crosses the ball into the box for Benzema to finish, so can you blame Laporte for over committing, part of him might've expected for Ederson to deal with the shot but Vinicius is playing with so much confidence right now that you probably shouldn't take that risk. What a lovely game it was, I got no reason to criticize any of these teams. Clearly Real Madrid are not the best team in Europe but they got as good a chance as anyone right now to win the champions league.

I don’t think anyone was expecting Madrid to stay alive. Those first 10-15mins were atrocious. City were so high up the field pressing Madrid’s back line and creating chance after chance. The entire back line was horrendous. Militao and nacho kept falling out of position. Mendy could not mark anyone to save his life. And Carvajal was so high up the field by the time he dropped back City had already scored. Score line should’ve been 6-0. But that’s why Madrid are so dangerous. Just when you think the threat is over, they turn around and bite you. They are so quick in the counter, and both benzema and Vini are ice cold in front of goal. The second leg is going to be a great matchup. If Casemiro and Alaba are able to play I think City will have their hands full.

The game was great, Madrid were horrendous. The scoreline flatters them. This has been the story for the last few UCL games. Completely outclassed for the majority of the game, few moments of brilliance/idiocy that brings Madrid back into the game. I don’t see Madrid as a threat in the second leg, especially because City were missing a lot more crucial players than Madrid were. And Pep outclassed Ancelotti easy. Pep has a team, Ancelotti prays Modric passes to Benzema.

Real can give rest to all the first team players till 2nd leg, but man city can’t. That will be an advantage.

A lot of how City failed to truly keep Real down was from Fernandinho not being able to completely shut down Vini. He managed to break through many times, including the attempt where he scored. This along with defensive mistakes which happened with both teams, caused this game to be so high-scoring. On any other day, City would’ve probably scored 6 or 7. Likewise, Real would’ve probably scored 5. Walker and Cancelo were both out for this game and if one of them comes back, preferably Walker, Vini will have the hardest second leg in his life.
