Apologize to Ohtani

*Nope. Bookies don't ever allow random gamblers to generate a $4.5 million debt unless they know that the person making the bets can easily cover the debt. The bookie knew he was dealing with Ohtani directly, or by proxy via Ippei. If it's not true, then the only other explanation is that Ohtani is a gullible fool, not noticing that millions and millions of dollars were missing. That's almost worse than gambling.*

What I find interesting is that Dave Roberts have alluded in interviews that Ippei had restricted Ohtani from directly communicating with the team. Every communications went through him. Now that he is gone, the barrier has been lifted and the communication with Ohtani is free flowing. Apparently, Ippei used Ohtani's lack of English and total trust in him to control what he wants Ohtani to hear and to believe is true.

5:55 Typically, companies will hire staff who speak the language of their foreign client to speak directly to the client, and will not rely on an outside interpreter like Ippei. Even the agency in the report acknowledged that they would hire their own interpreters for their Japanese-speaking staff and Mizuhara was the exception. And Ippei was not supposed to have control over the account in question, which was also described in the report. He was able to access it and change notification settings because he helped set it up when Ohtani first moved to California back in 2018. Ohtani was under the impression that his accountants had complete control and were monitoring everything while Ippei had no permission to access any of his accounts. You'd think these advisors would have been suspicious when Ohtani didn't show up to their financial meeting and only Mizuhara was there. They already had asked questions about it and expressed concerns before. Even if they believed Mizuhara's story that Ohtani was sick and couldn't show, they could have rescheduled the meeting or have had him on conference call.

Could the fact no one questioned that Ohtani wanted to keep the account private maybe be due to people thinking it might be a cultural thing or the fact that Ohtani seems like a private person to begin with considering even his teammates were surprised to hear he quietly got married.

Someone had to be filing his taxes with access to bank statements. The IRS must have tracked the many large withdrawals of cash as wire transfers. There still seems to be a hole in this story somewhere. Its one thing to hide this from Ohtani but this would need to be hidden from the IRS too. I'm worried about making a $50 tax mistake but $60 million is flying around and accountants don't even notice?

If I were an attorney for Shohei, I would pursue a legal liability from Angels !? Are you familiar with “drum shop law”, which makes a restaurant liable once a drunk patron ends up causing legal problems outside of a restaurant ? Angels hired Ippei as an interpreter for Shohei, but did not make sure that Ippei was acting for the best interest of Shohei when he was taking care of Shohei’s bank account ? Angels must have some liability in this wrong doing by Ippei. After all, Ippei was AN EMPLOYEE of Angels. This unprecedented incident must be looked into as a liability issue from an organization who hired Ippei.
@LindaMitchell
@LindaMitchell Ай бұрын
You sound like a delusional fan. Shohei _requested_ that Ippei be his interpreter when he was with the Angels. When he left, he brought him to the Dodgers with him. Of course, a team will capitulates to a star's request. It's not so unusual for Japanese or Korean players to bring their own interpreters. Don't blame the Angels organization for Ippei. They have a lot of other issues but that's not one of them.

As Rich Eisen alluded to earlier in the show, when news first broke, there were "holes" in the story and a lot of "unanswered questions." The problem is, Rich Eisen filled these holes with his own assumptions and speculations. These "holes" were not intended for talking heads like Rich Eisen to answer. By doing so, he made matters worse, and helped to dog pile on Ohtani's character. All the questions that he had, were answered in the official complaint. Rather than wait for the investigation, he decided to make assumptions on those unanswered questions, which was the whole problem. It's one thing to ask questions, but it's an entire different thing to speculate based on those unanswered questions. Also, dragging Mark McGwire into this wss distasteful. Your past personal experience with another player, has absolutely nothing to do with this case.
