no, you’re wrong, we aren’t being unfair to nancy. in the past the usa actually went to war with other nations over similar things. for example when 2 americans were executed without a fair trial in a nation in south america we went to war over it. war of 1812 one of the inciting factors was the british empire using a very loose interpretation of a treaty to jail and effectively enslave us sailors and merchants. guess what AJW, if china so much as touched a hair on a olympic athlete or their family, our government should step in and tell china to raise their fist or screw off instead of cowering.

You make the point about the West's moral decay very well. I say the West, because this unfortunately has not only happened in the US, but in much of Europe too. It is a point that ought to be made more. There is no conviction anymore in our societies. Very few people would defend our way of life if it came to it. What too many people don't seem to realize is that this is not the case for all the other civilizations that are still out there. Think of the Chinese or Muslim countries for examples. Their citizens are committed to their cultures, they have conviction. And I am sure many important leaders in those societies have long noticed the West's _moral_ weakness. Whether this has already prompted them to take active steps I won't speculate here. But even if that has not yet happened, it is only a matter of time when it will. I honestly believe that it won't take much of a crisis to expose the West's weakness for the world to see. And by Jove, we will be in trouble then.

It's just partisanship and self-interest. The Chinese know that they won't be able to touch American athletes without causing a massive diplomatic scandal. She is an establishment democrat, which is why she doesn't want to risk a stop to the smooth sailing of the Democrats-Chinese collaboration or a risk to the establishment's investments in China. Imagine, if she had said: "Athletes of America, you are representing us. The free world, American values, Western values. Don't let them succeed, when they try to silence you with intimidation tactics. Because we, the free nations on the world, have your back. Do not be afraid." Instead she basically said: "Shut up, shut up. Be afraid. Very afraid." That's not compassion. It simply reinforces the intimidation tactics.

While I'm not a fan of Pelosi in any way, I actually like that message. She didn't say it wasn't worth protesting about, she could've easily said that, she called out their violations and cited their being "ruthless" as the reason she advocated against protesting. She even suggested that the CCP might smear, harass, or assault the athletes if they did. I'll give her some respect for that.

@@spaceracer23 I never said she does care. I wholeheartedly agree that her reasons are probably totally self-serving. That being said, she did say it. While not a total denouncement of the CCP, it does not paint them in the angelic halo glow that they demand. Moreover, she could've just passed the message to her puppets at CNN and saved some hassle, but she didn't. That does deserve a little respect. So the voter ID is just a document you have to show before voting ? and this is a bad thing, because... ? We have this shit in Brasil since 1875. I got mine in 2014/15, and all I needed to do was to wake up a lil bit earlier than usual, go to the place with the 3 required documents (2 of them are already necessary for you to do anything in the country), wait 30 minutes for the whole process and I got out of there with the voter ID on the same day. As long as you have the 2 required documents, anyone can have one The only situation I can see where someone wouldn't be able to get one is if they don't have the money to go there, and the solution we have here is that usually this place is near other places where people go to solve some problems, so when you go do those things, you can also get the voter ID.

Or they don't have the documentation because they're "Undocumented" immigrants. It's about illegal immigrants "losing" their "voting rights" couched in soft racism of African Americans not being able to get an ID for whatever unknown reason.

In the beginning, ESPN was SportsCenter and sports, bad sports, but sports (monster truck racing, Australian rules football, AWA Wrestling, really rinky dink college basketball teams playing and college football). When ESPN starting getting bigger, getting into MLB, NFL, NBA, they dropped the rinky dink show, and started filling up those sports with more opinion related shows, which I believe was when ESPN started turning to the left.

Access goes both ways. In journalism it is obvious the conflict that will arise. It happens with an audience too. You get access to an audience and the audience gets access to you. In many things it can corrupt either side or both.

One point of contention.... Yes the athletes need to be advised of what can happen to them if they were to speak out against the Chinese while in China and we don't have a SEAL team there with them to protect and exfil them if they piss off the government. But it's not Nancy Pelosi's job to do so or tell them what they should and shouldn't do. And it doesn't need to be done publicly. She had her own agenda for doing what she did. Idk what it was but she had one. She always does. And she's never said Anything publicly for the good or protection of others who arent elected officials from her party.

I never realized there were other reasons for France giving up during WW 2. Just looking at how many France lost showed they had a determination to not give in. We need heroes in some way, as well as some national pride. Otherwise we might as well just not fight.
@newperve

Basically the French army had been reduced below what could practically fight the Nazis. After losing what little heavy equipment they had left at Dunkirk they weren't really an effective force. At best they could hold isolated places that weren't strategically vital for a while, until the Nazis took them out one by one since they couldn't combine.

@Clown World Cunt Dindu Nuffin note I said 'other reasons'. There was the Maginot line, that hardly served a purpose other than reroute the German offensive. Perhaps I mistyped and should have written, 'I never would have considered a contributing factor to the utter decimation of the French in WW2 might have been due to a push for peace in an interesting manner'. Not saying that it was a key factor, only it could have had a demoralizing effect on the nation. Probably, though, the huge force of German soldiers showing up was a huge factor.

@@newperve It wasn’t their equipment they were actually more mechanized and larger in terms of ground forces than the Heer. The issue was the supply chain was hard to maintain when you have no radio communication.
@emberfist8347
@emberfist8347 2 жыл бұрын
@@renon1946 The entire point of the Maginot Line was to reroute the German forces. The Allied Plan was to mobilize their forces to defend the Belgian Low Countries in case of an attack as Germany previously attacked through the Low Countries in WWI and they would be ready this time. Then Belgium decided to become neutral and Hitler made the last minute change to have the Panzer Armies advance through the Ardennes which the Allies believed was impossible with a mechanized force.
@renon1946
@renon1946 2 жыл бұрын
@@emberfist8347 like I followed up with, German's at your doorstep where there previously wasn't was a huge factor in their quick surrender. There was an underground of French guerilla fighters, but that was small scale until the allies actually made a foothold in Normandy. There was a lot going on at the time, surprisingly.

*nods* Around the Horn was very good. I remember staying up late just to watch the crawl at the bottom for the Mariners score. I was a Griffey fan and he played for them and not the Reds.3 hours behind so the games tended to end at 1 AM. Then Griffey got traded to my local team and his lower half quit on him and I had to defend him from all of my neighbors. That 2nd half of his career kinda sucked.
