Here I am walking in the city of Essen, Germany, during pre-Christmas season in 2021 from the main station to the Kennedyplatz, where the international Christmas Market is located. Enjoy Christmas decorations in the shopping streets during this walk, and many handmade goods & food stalls. With around 170 stalls, Essen has one of the greatest Christmas markets in Germany and has won several awards for its diversity and beauty. Spread throughout the city centre, the huts stand under a sea of twinkling lights - an atmosphere that makes a visit contemplative and dreamlike. Essen, often called the shopping city of Germany, is geographically part of the Rhineland and the larger Rhine-Ruhr Metropolitan Region. It is decidedly gaining ground in importance and denotation as an attractive city in Germany. More than 700 retail shops and boutiques are the reason why Essen’s downtown area is an attractive shopping place. It is also often considered as the energy capital of Germany with E.ON and RWE, Germany's largest energy providers, both headquartered in the city. I absolutely love this city! I lived here for about six months as a young man back in 1973. The people are so friendly and hospitable. My wife and I were here in 2018, visiting friends and spending time at the Christmas market.

I have my self defense pepper spray and taser always ready in my side pocket for aggressive/violent/outrageous people who believe that I’m filming them, which is of course never the case, since I’m filming the city scape.

@@JapanPotato Stadtwald the Isenburg, Baldenysee, or take a bike and ride the Bikeride that goes all along the river Ruhr, thats a pretty nice trip. Oh and maybe visit Villa Hügel! Did you see Gruga Park, if not this is a must for sure.

Baldeney See, Grugapark I filmed before and the cycling route along the Ruhr river from Essen werden to Mülheim an der Ruhr I filmed as well! 😃 I’ll check the others when there is time. At first I need to finish filming all remaining relevant Christmas markets.

Hello ALI14, thank you very much! Happy to hear that you enjoy my content! Wiesbaden.. There might be a chance at some point next year. Let’s see! It’s around a 3 hours drive from my current location and I would have to go back and forth on the same day. If gasoline or trains wouldn’t be so expensive here I could go next week.

I live in the City Essen. Unfortunately, there are fewer Christmas market stalls this year than in previous years. Some shops have also closed due to the pandemic.

@Alex Roberts It's outside, you weren't required to wear a mask there then, only in stores or generally inside of buildings. There is also a 2G-Rule, which means only people who are "Geimpft"-Vaccinated or "Genesen"- Recovered are allowed to visit the Christmas Market. That has changes though - because the Covid numbers are rising there are stricter rules.
