спасибо за комментарий! ваш мальчик не кастрирован? если нет то представляю как это непросто... с инстинктом сложно бороться. возможно единственное утешение это то что с возрастом все таки эти проявления снижаются, сейчас у него пик половозрелости. если же он кастрирован, то можно пробовать еще поработать. нам еще очень хорошо пошли групповые классы с другими собаками. там вокруг вас много других собак, близко, но общаться с ними нельзя. собака сначала проходит через frustration, воет, тянет и т.д., все это просто игнорируется. в итоге собака устает сопротивляться и начинает смотреть на вас - почему это мне не разрешают? тогда собаку поощряют. в итоге после нескольких раз собака привыкает к тому что рядом другие собаки, все заняты своим делом, видит что другие собаки занимаются, и научается не обращать на них внимания. интерес к еде/лакомству также можно стимулировать, если чуть сократить рацион и не давать еду просто так, а только за какое то поведение. сил вам!

this collar is handmade in Australia, I got it from ebay. I was searching for a whippet martingale collar as usually for these breeds they make wide collars.

exactly right! Basenjis like whippets have narrowed head and wide long neck, so these types of collars are working good for them. apart from that, a martingale is so much easier to slip on/off!

for all outside training I use high value natural treats like dried liver/lung/heart, fish jerky, dried salmon fish skin, cooked mince/meat. the smellier the better usually 😊 all the best with your basenji! ❤️

year and a half is challenging age, they are like teenagers who discovered you are not the centre of their universe and they can ignore you. dogs that you meet on walks is not a great training opportunity because you have little control over the situation and have to react most of the time rather than being prepared. with dogs on walks for now the best I would say is to increase your distance from them as much as possible, and dont let your dog approach them. as soon as you spot a dog coming your way, change direction, cross the road, pick up your dog and turn away so your dog cant see the other dog, etc. Once your dog gets fixated on the other dog in close proximity, you wont be able to shift her focus, so best to prevent that at s much as possible. if its too late and other dog approached unexpectedly, I used to literally sit down between my dog and the other dog, blocking my dog's view and restricting it physically. But then you need to create good training opportunities by either joining a dog club and attending group classes, where the trainer creates structured environment and dogs learn to concentrate on their owners even when other dogs are around, or coming to a local dog park but staying outside, and by identifying the distance at which your dog starts reacting to other dogs she can see in the park, start the training right before or at that distance. if treats are not working in this case, what you could try is just remain in place while your dog tries to pull towards other dogs, and let it get frustrated. dont say anything, just hold the lead. eventually the dog will look at you trying to understand whats holding her, why we are not moving, and that moment you praise a lot and relax the lead slightly letting her go a bit closer. as soon as she starts loosing control again, stop and hold. the idea is to make dog understand that when she is agitated it gets her nowhere, but reward calm behaviour and attention on you, even very brief. this teaches dog to switch from excited state to calm, initially through frustration, and regulate own emotional responses. this will take some time but she will learn if you are consistent. with treats not working outside because she is over stimulated with environment, again try to find that place between home and outside where she can still pay attention to you and take treats. maybe its the driveway, or side street in front of your house, or a quiet spot in your neighbourhood. and start training there by gradually moving to more distractions. wish you all the best with your girl!

если у собаки интерес к исследованиям перекрывает интерес к еде то с этим конечно трудно соперничать. можно попробовать усилить пищевую мотивацию и строго контролировать когда и сколько еды он получает. то есть всю еду давать только на прогулках, и только тогда когда он обращает внимание на вас. когда мои были маленькие я часто всю порцию завтрака скармливала на утренней прогулке, и ужина на вечерней. это один подход. другой вариант - если он очень хорошо занимается дома, то отработать на отлично команду watch дома, и потом очень постепенно переносить ее на улицу - то есть сначала тренировать ее в коридоре, потом на пороге, потом на driveway, потом в двух метрах от дома, потом в 200 метрах и т.д. то есть постепенно увеличивать дистанцию и незнакомость окружающей среды только когда предыдущий этап получается хорошо. на это правда много времени уйдет. мне нравится больше первый вариант, если так делать все время он быстро сообразит что еду может получить только на прогулке, и тогда мысли о еде и ожидание еды возможно заместят хоть немного мысли об окружающем мире. с возрастом это тоже должно улучшиться. удачи вам!

Слышала, что такой способ кормления может повысить стресс у собаки, так как понижает предсказуемость ее среды. А он у нас итак достаточно нервный мальчик. Пока что пробуем долгий путь : тренируемся дома и стараемся постепенно переносить на улицу. Надеюсь получится.

тогда возможно он слишком возбужден на улице из-за тревожности и боязни? в стрессовом состоянии собака не будет брать еду. у меня Макина склонна пугаться новой обстановки, громких хлопков, иногда самокатов, а иногда просто непонятно чего. тогда она начинает беспокоиться, тянуть поводок, резко озираться, прижимать уши. если что-то ее испугает она потом долго отходит. после года у собак еще бывают fear phases. если похоже что у него стресс то может быть пока гулять только в хорошо привычных местах. надеюсь все получится! ❤️

unfortunately its not so much about the treats, there is no magic treat that will suddenly make them listen. many basenjis enjoy environment stimulation over any treat. any many get so excited outside that they simply wont take any food. the best approach is to start building good foundation at home, and reward your dog for paying attention - use 'sit' and 'watch' commands - and then gradually transferring it to the outside, starting from the least distracting environment. when the dog is in high arousal outside it won't be able to process any information/learn from you. what I also do if the environment is too exciting and I cant get the dog to focus on me is trying to block the environment first - shorten the leash, sit in front of the dog and block their view, and just stop. they will pull and jump and whine with frustration, but eventually they will stop and look at you, asking - what's the matter with you? why cant we go? - thats the moment to praise and give a treat and immediately releasing them. an important and often overlooked part of training is not to try to make the dog do what you want using a treat in exchange, but control what THEY want and only let them have it when they pay attention to you. so outside, if the dog really wants to sniff something and pulls like crazy, or wants to go check out the birds or people - you just stop and hold the lead. they will be very frustrated but eventually realise that you control the lead, and you control where they can go, so they pay attention to you, and you immediately reward by letting them do what they wanted.
