A team of super-hero outcasts tagged as the weirdest superteam of all time, the Doom Patrol served as the main inspiration for Marvel's X-Men while being themselves heavily based on the Fantastic Four. Their 1960s run fizzled out, the 1970s revival was a dud and the late 1980s series wasn't going so well and faced cancellation when a young writer fresh from England named Grant Morrison turned it into one of the greatest comics of all time.
