In this first video in a new series, Neil examines the typical ingredients included in most understandings of church. We suffer from what he calls "The Mexican Food Syndrome."

Yes, Jesus is the main thing, and His ingredients start with a new, empty vessel that He fills with organic new wine; and no two ekklesias can have the exact same ingredients if led by His Spirit. I loved your talk at 24:14. Blessings, Neil.

Thank you Neil! The challenge I have when it comes to the "Mexican food syndrom" is - what to do with those churchgoers arround us whom God has placed geographically in our lives. One thing you have mentioned erlier - to keep loving them. The second thing God showed me was - to show the better way out of doing Church. But still I find it hard at times to live in the culture where people do not pay attention to what God is saying and showing us currently even after such a long time of the lock down. Would love to have some fajitas now. Viva Mexico Viva Jesus!

Yes, too many are stuck in their grey matter and cannot build new pathways of ideas in their minds. That's true. Their palate is set and they cannot stomach new menu items that are not the same ingredients.BTW I love Mexican food, just not exclusively at every meal.

I enjoyed the video and have read one of your books. The list of essential things to make church would be argued by the proponents is that these ingredients are all about Jesus. So Jesus is included. It depends on the quality of the person leading whether they can point people to Jesus. CH Spurgeon was one such person who did.

Yeah, I hear that a lot. "Jesus is assumed because where ever believers are He is in their midst." My question is always, "Why do you only assume Jesus' presence, but spell out clearly the need for qualified elders or preachers?" It betrays a huge bias that has plagued church for centuries. There's no good excuse, even though many good men have been duped by the approach. We need to make Jesus the main thing again. Seriously. He is far more important than any of us.

Appreciated this teaching. I recently found your books and am working towards planting a simple/house church. Is there anything like Church Multiplication Associates and Resources that still exist? I would love to connect with something/someone like that.
