Way off topic, but it's important . You need to store an extra pair of eyeglasses. Most of us have old ones in a drawer somewhere.

I put any old prescription eyeglasses into a plastic container and can have those on hand if someone can use them in case of an emergency. Some of us are near sighteded and some are far sighted and the glasses are still useable for those that might match them. We used to donate them but if things get difficult and someone breaks or loses their glasses then this might really be a big help.

We are entering times where prepping is a necessity. Everyone should be setting aside extra food for rough times ahead. I'm hoping there's no more talk of rotating your cans, everything you have will be used, and if you don't like something, dont worry, someone else will and you can barter or trade what you dont want. Please come up with a plan for storing water. Im keeping my 27 oz used water bottles. I'm washing and rinsing them and setting them in a sunny window to dry. I refill them with purified water I purchase at a local store where I pay 48 cents per gallon. I also have a gallon size water purifier at home. You may need water to bathe, for pets, or to fill a tub or large bowl to rinse utensils or a coffee cup, or a pot you used to cook in. You may also want water to put in the toilet if the water has been shut off. I plan to wash myself every few days and plan on needing 4 bottles per shower. It won't last long, but hopefully long enough if we get into an emergency situation.

Buy two quart size spray bottles, liquid body soap and baby wipes. Fill spray bottles with water and put a few drops is soap in one. Stand in the shower and spray down with soap water. Use the baby wipe to scrub down. Spray down with water and towel dry. Two quarts should last a week using this method every day.

I have not tried this yet but flatbread wraps can be made from just 1 cup red lentils soaked in 2 cups water. Soak at least 3 hours or overnight. Blend the lentils with the water until really smooth. It will look like pancake batter. Put batter in nonstick fry pan and swirl around. When bubbles form, pop and stay (like pancakes do) flip. Then take off heat when done. There are all kinds of videos on making these.

I have stocked Gluten-free flours for my son. They may not last as long as white flour, but we probably won't need it for 30 years. At least he and others can have it for a while. Peopel need to consider that having diverse and 'happy' foods will go a long way when things are going badly. We don;t want to just exist, we want to live.

It reminds me of Little House on the Prairie. They had no gifts, except the mom had saved some white sugar and made each child a sugar cookie for Christmas. (Their neighbor surprised them with more, but they were amazed at how much they got.) Little things can go a long way.

You can make delicious cornbread with cornmeal, whole kernel canned or fresh corn, and a sprinkle of hot pepper or a few chopped green peppers. After baking, I cover the freshly cooked warm cornbread with foil to keep it moist. Some people like just a tiny sprinkle of sugar in their cornbread, some don’t. Option: adding a pat or two of butter or a little bacon grease to the batter will add extra flavor. Cornmeal or whole kernel corn adds great fiber to the diet.

Just want to let you know I tried the Sugar Cookie recipe you gave in this video. I followed it exactly as described but I added about a teaspoon of vanilla extract. It was very good for such few ingredients. I'll try it again but add 1 egg to help pull it together a little more. Again overall, it was very good. 👍🍪

Not way off topic but a common sense point in your prepping philosophy……certain situations will decide whether you are able to cook from scratch, or maybe not cook at all for whatever period….think on this some of your preps including food need to factor those situations in, right now in the comfort of the moment, everything is dreamy and nice and a five star dinner would be just fantastic BUT in a chaotic crisis you may not have time nor be able to even have a fire, your food preps need to have those situation’s addressed also. As a retired LEO, I have been in deserts in the southwest on patrol where there where no eateries or stores and having a fire was not an option, hot food heated by the car engine was the only choice, now imagine a “ one second after” event where the world stops and you better have thought out those food items for that scenario and I don’t mean trail mix. We think in the now, but hopefully with great site and people like AG, we will get serious and realistic in our planning strategy.

Maybe, get some stevia or other sugar-substitute powder, for a start? I quite like the Stevia, though I've never cooked/ baked with it. I also got some Stevia seeds, but haven't tried to grow them yet. ** Watch out, though - some of those products - I think it was Erythritol or something, are POISONOUS to animals. I watched a video about three dogs, where one raided the baked goods on the counter & shared with the other dogs, and the husky got GRAVELY ILL, and nearly died. It was on the "Girl with the Dogs" grooming channel - Vanessa shared the story as she groomed the husky - that survived, with help financial help from her channel. Good luck, and Cheers!

Good list. We have gluten free family members and I definitely always keep extra GF flour on hand and can bake most of the same things you can with regular flour. I often vacuum seal the bags to keep them fresh as long as possible. On the sugar, the ones that just say "sugar" is likely the GMO beet sugar but the cane sugar is always marked as pure cane sugar. So far I've been able to vacuum seal the extra brown sugar and that does help it stay softer. Love that you gave that cookie recipe all from your pantry does show you can do something simply and with what you have on hand! One thing maybe to keep extra on hand is yeast. If things get harder and someone comes to you asking for something like bread, they may likely have at least some of the components like the flour and salt and then you can use what they have plus the yeast you have if you are willing to bake a loaf of bread for them. We can't provide everything to all that could show up but if they have some of what can be used on hand, then you can possibly use what they have to make something for them and not have to draw from your stash.

@canelareina I learned if u put the rice, flour etc in the freezer for 5 days then it kills any weevil eggs and then store in a sealed container. Or even better after freezing then seal in a Mylar bag with oxygen absorbers. Some say u don't need to freeze then because eggs will not hatch without any oxygen. This will be much less expensive than buying #10 cans.

@@lisal.766 Except that the items you are buying from the LDS home storage center are dirt cheap and so is the shipping. If you are extremely lucky you may live near one of them and can go there in person. There are 100 of them in the US, look it up and find out where their locations are. When you are shopping in the store you can buy single cans. If you are shopping mail order you must order a case of six which is still a very great price.

Salt does not expire if stored properly. Salt has a best-by date on its label, but that’s usually because it’s required by law or because people tend to trust products with a best-by, use-by or sell-by date.
