Ideally you want an end grain wooden cutting board. They are more sanitary and will help your knives last longer. Plus once it gets too scratched up and beat to hell to use you can just sand it down to a nice fresh surface and refinish with some mineral oil and it's just like new. A good quality butcher block cutting board will last you a lifetime with proper care.

Quick question. Why do you use plastic instead of wood boards? My understanding is that plastic, while great for raw protiens, degrades the knifes much more quickly, requiring more frequent sharpening (not honing; I imagine you do that every time.) Thanks for these videos, this is great for an intermediate chef too, and serves as good intel for me to pass to new folks!
@HeadlessChickenTO
@HeadlessChickenTO 5 жыл бұрын
A number of years ago, at least here in Canada, wood was banned from commercial kitchen use because it absorbs liquids like meat juices. Plus they get dented and damaged easier that causes grooves that are harder to wash where bad little microbes can do the nasty. Plastic is supposedly more sanitary.

@martinerhard8447
@martinerhard8447 4 жыл бұрын
@@HeadlessChickenTO The funny thing is that studies showed that the exact opposite is true. Both wood and plastic boards have to be soft enough to get grooves, if they are too hard they will blunt your knifes (that's also why one should avoid hard bamboo cutting boards or much worse glass or stone ugh..) And of course on board boards bacteria can nest, but most wood cutting boards contain natural bakterizidal components. That's why studies found less bacteria on wood boards after washing
@zdenek3010
@zdenek3010 4 жыл бұрын
@@martinerhard8447 Not only wood is soft but cutting boards are usually made the way that wood fibres point vertically and knife slices between them so they don't destroy the edge so quickly and also they can push back into their previous position making grooves go away. It's basically like cutting brush between bristles.

Watching this video a little over a year the first time I watched it you’re still my favorite channel on KZfaq you toe the line between entertaining, quality, experience, and humor.more than that though you seem to really care about what you do and the audience that comes with it. You make people feel like you are talking to them and not using them for views. Keep it up you put out some of the best quality on KZfaq and 4 million plus people and I all love you.

Finally got around to checking out the equipment list on the website because I'm in need of a new cutting board and I love that you included both affiliate and non-affiliate links to places where all the stuff can be purchased. Of course I'm going to use the affiliate ones, but by providing both, it really does show that it's stuff you genuinely like to use and aren't just recommending it to make money from it. Keeping it classy, like always!

If you want a nice decent watch (promise I'm not about to link you to a scam!) I'd search on Amazon. I found a couple nice ones for super cheap and bought the Cassio brand divers watch (it was silicone with a resin face and crystal movements if I got the name wrong) for my boyfriend. He's a swimmer and I know he's said the watch is basically idiot proof so any normal human with common sense should be able to keep it for a long time and it also came with a two year warranty for like... five extra bucks I think

samdajellybeenie I have some of those too! I got 6, 8 and 10 inch chef knives, a 8 inch cleaver, a 5 inch deboneing knife, and a 5 inch utility knife. And they all cost between $30-50 and have lasted me 4 years so far. And the fibrox handle is so nice, it may look ugly but its a lot grippyer than wood. Victorinox is a great choice imo.

Well for small cutting boards just take a wet piece of paper towel and place it under the board for instant stabilization.
@SanaSamaha
@SanaSamaha 6 жыл бұрын
Use another container of water (or detachable facet if you have one) to carefully rinse the cutting board while holding it over the sink. Soap up the surface with sponge or towel.

Seth Greschuk While that does work for sure it is also very unsanitary. Depending on the task you are performing, like say trimming a chicken, there could be juices and such that are full of bacteria. The paper towel will hold those things and help aid in the spread of bacteria. This is why it is a violation of health code in every city and county in this the US.
