Essential oils explained
Essential oils have been around for a long time as early as 4500 BC
I am a bit of an essential oil snob, i try to buy local or australian essential oils.
If i cant source it locally it Must be certified organic, then we know there is someone looking over their shoulders making sure they do the right thing.
I must say im not a huge fan of big american essential oil companies that are squashing our small australian essential oil farmers & the big american companies aren't certified organic so who is looking over their shoulder.
Why? Because there are some very harmful ways to make essential oils like the very disturbing Chemical solvents extraction - an absolute oil which differs from distilled essential oils used as aroma oils.
Petroleum or gasoline are used as solvents, yes only upto 5% is still present in the finished product, though for me, which may not be you, is to much for me.
I actually have had many a conversation over my 15 years of attending markets, with people saying that they have had reactions to essential oils, i ask have they have been using a solvent extracted essential oils, wich are absolute essential oils, most people don't know the answer
I like the good old fashioned way - steam distilled.[ No solvents]
The combination of heated steam and gentle pressure causes the essential oil to be released from microscopic protective sacs.
I am finding it increasingly harder to buy certified organic aussie essential oils, wich have no solvents or residual herbicides, so please do support your local growers and buy off them. like our local ecalyptus company

Anyway the certified organic essential oils that i love to use for the winter blues are
Rosalina, Lavender, Eucalyptus, T-tree, Thyme, Peppermint, Rosemary & Pine.
All these oils are great on their own to burn in an oil burner or mix and blend them together. I use all of these in our chest rub that I just made a fresh batch of.

Let's take a quick look at all of these wonderful essential oils.
Rosalina - Is a melaleuca from the northern territory
Its calming and relaxing properties make it ideal for sleep and stress disorders.
Smells fresh, lemony, slightly camphorous and floral.
Lavender- (from nearby Mount Darragh), the oil promotes relaxation and is believed to treat anxiety, fungal infections, allergies, depression, insomnia, eczema, nausea, and menstrual cramps.
Eucalyptus- local from jindabyne conditions including nasal congestion,
T-tree- is believed to be antibacterial.
Thyme- Coughs and respiratory tract infections
Peppermint - helps the body eliminate mucus.
Rosemary- Eases Stress.
Pine- anti-inflammatory
