I work in a grocery store stocking shelves. The standard issue boxcutter they gave me is absolutely PERFECT for throwing. The blade opens packages and the handle end has a safety cutter very similar to the kind of blade the YYF yoyo multitool has, which as you’d expect, works great when trimming down strings. If you don’t work in a grocery store, i’d still recommend anyone in the hobby own one of these things.

100 pack of string is actually so useful. it encourages you to change more frequently and not be stingy. Makes the whole thing feel nicer, and makes tricks easier.

Nice info. I use small tins like the Altoids type to hold some extra strings, a bearing, pads, and something to pick out knots(toothpick, paperclip). I found an Altoid smalls tin in a drawer, that fits nice into that useless little pocket of our jeans. Slim gift card tins work great for my ear buds, fit nice in the back pocket. Will have to start saving the rubber bracelets, we always seem to get them in things.

I didn't think to make a yo-yo holster like that, your method is much more effective, it even holds my N8 securely the way my band tightened

yos, strings, carrying case, display case, a way to clean bearings, thin bearing lube, extra bearings, extra response pads/silicone, pliers/bearing removal tool, scissors, yo glove, yo-holster, toothpicks (to use with knots), notebook/pen (to keep notes in, tricks, list of your yos...etc)...

Totally agree with recommendations. I personally have a multitool (knife, pliers, etc.) which I do carry on me; it's super useful! I have about 6 N5's as beaters, which are at home, in bags, at work, etc.. : ) Oh, and one thing you didn't mention: I have a nice glass jar that I use for storing bearings and cleaning solution. That way if a bearing dies, I can just replace it and keep playing.
@ChillinDude00

Oh, and you missed Loctite! That $6 bottle has saved a $50 yoyo and two $10 yoyo's. Would recommend it to anyone.
@throwsnbrews9516
@throwsnbrews9516 7 жыл бұрын
I thought about that as I have a bunch of extra bearings, but I've never had a bearing fail hard enough where a little bit of lube and a couple throws didn't put it back to perfect. Locktite is good. I did save a stripped Echo 2 for awhile with it, but it eventually gave out, too.
@ChillinDude00
@ChillinDude00 7 жыл бұрын
Oh, no! Well, hopefully my Stealth holds in there. They're kinda impossible to find atm, so even if the loctite gives out I'll find some way to get the axle to stay in place... perhaps solder, super glue, or just more loctite?! As for the bearings, I've only had one fail due to dirt/hair getting stuck inside, but at least in the jar they stay clean and at the ready.

Agree on all this stuff, except you should emphasize how dangerous lighters and poly string can be. If you get a polyester string burning it'll ball up and start to drip burning molten polyester - onto your hand will REALLY be bad, and if it hits anything flammable it's possibly crazy-dangerous. It takes some work to do something like that and end up badly injured or in a disaster but as a Boy Scout I learned to make rope using poly string and ended up with a hard-shelled lump of molten plastic stuck to my hand, which left me with a pretty severe burn simply from not noticing it dripping on me. ;)

Thanks for the tips. I have a question for you: It relates to hand care. It may be because I'm just getting back into yoyo, but I've developed a callus on the left side of my index finger. The problem is that it's splitting and I have to crazy glue it or use EMT paste so I can play, without the string going into the split and causing pain. Guitar calluses have never been a problem because they aren't at a joint. I hate those goofy gloves, but I may have to start practicing with one. Or use that yoyo tape. Have you ever had this problem? If so what did you do? Normal callus care? Moisturize or not? I would love to avoid this issue. Hopefully it's transient.

Yes, I used to play my hands bloody on Saturdays sometimes. I still have trouble. I've super-glued cuts back together. I started using O'Keefe's hand lotion and its helped a good bit. Just try to take care of your hands the best you can. The nice bandaids and neosporin help, too.

I'd love to give out yoyos on Halloween but there are only like 3 kids in walking distance of my house(all the other people are 35 years and up) and the cheapest yoyos tht will not instantly shatter when you touch them are 25 euro rebrands of duncan hayabusa, proyo and freehand 2

I like to have spare bearings that I buy cheap from aliexpress. Also silicone or pads :)
@throwsnbrews9516
@throwsnbrews9516 7 жыл бұрын
I thought about including that stuff because I do have it, but honestly I haven't had to replace a single bearing and the ONLY pads I've had to replace were on used Yo-yos. Pads are essential at some point, though. Good call.
@KratakFitilj
@KratakFitilj 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I never ruined a bearing in a more than decade of throwing. And some of them were lubed with "wrong" stuff too. I like to have spare bearings for cases where a bearing I'm using gets dirty or somethin', mostly when I'm traveling and stuff.

@@KratakFitilj I don’t have the “bearing off and on thingy” how do I remove my bearings?
@KratakFitilj
@KratakFitilj 3 жыл бұрын
@@bjwkusgxjdks Bearing removal tool can be found for very cheap on AliExpress or eBay. It is possible to remove a bearing with needle nose pliers, but apparently there is a chance you might ruin your bearing or yoyo that way. Find tutorial in KZfaq.
