She is quite possibly the greatest female popular singer of all time. She was popular (and she is still performing) in Europe, but was only briefly in North America and did not become very well known. She is an exact contemporary of Streisand (both about the same age, both starting around 1960), and both are Jewish. Streisand became, of course, a world wide sensation from around 1963 for the the next 10 years, and Ofarim's greatest years were from about 1966 to 1976. So, Streisand dominated all female popular singers, and there was simply no room for Ofarim on the world stage. But connoisseurs have known about, and loved, Ofarim for the past 60 years, and will still remember her long after she is gone.

I'm of an age when I remember Esther singing this in 1969. Her voice was that of an angel and she continues to be so.
