For my next Practice Tips video I wanted to explore ricochet, as played in the cadenza of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto! This is one of those pieces near and dear to my heart, and I find that it's great for refining some delicate techniques. Watch below to see how I tackle the bounce! 🤪

Thank you so much! I learned a lot watching to this video, Esther! 1. Do not think to impulse on every single note (in this case). Just isolate G and E strings; 2. For the left hand think about chords. That will make it easier to get in tune and clear sound; 3. In the end of the period the soloist is accompaning the orchestra. That is a great idea and releases so much pressure. 4. The phrasing idea of a sunrise helps me too cause I can now imagine something out of the music that can be expressed by the sound waves! It was very helpful! Thanks a lot!

It's great to find a video that actually explains how to do a technique, instead of just showing how they can do it! Thank you so much 🥰

Notice you always do the up-bow with a tilted bow (which you don't do with the down-bow), does that help the ricochet too?

This is very good but the bow stroke in the cadenza of the Mendelssohn is not called Ricochet. It is called Saltando bowing. Jayne
