The AB seaman on duty, Silver Linde, was the only survivor of those on duty on the bridge during the critical hours. His duties were to make 25 - 30-minute rounds in the ship. The round commenced 30 minutes past every hour. During the rounds he was to check the general order and fire safety in the accommodation and on the car deck. Between rounds he was on duty on the bridge as a lookout and handyman.
