Created under the pseudonym Pedro Trotz, the work "Studies on Non-linear Feedback Loop" arises from the visual and auditory exploration of the possibilities of a self-made instrument, inspired by Chaos Theory and its applications to sonovisual creation.
The creation process of this work is characterized by controlled improvisation and constant mutation, always seeking singularity and a dialogue between chaos and order. By extensively utilizing the self-generating possibilities of emergent patterns from the instrument, the studies invite the listener to an introspective experience, revealing, beyond the technique, a dark, absorbing, and repetitive sound dimension.
Below is a detailed description of each study that comprises the work:
00:00 Study 1: Additive Quadrature Nuclei and Chebyshev Polynomials
In this first study, I delve into the use of additive quadrature nuclei combined with Chebyshev polynomials to create complex and dynamic waveforms. The goal is to generate textures rich in harmonics, where geometry and sound creation converge with precision.
04:15 Study 2: Variable Width Pulse and Non-linear Resonator
Here, I explore the manipulation of pulse width and the integration of non-linear resonators to produce sounds oscillating between stability and chaos. This piece aims to capture the essence of variability and resonance, while also challenging the listener's expectations.
06:53 Study 3: Self-emerging Melodies
This study focuses on generating melodies that autonomously emerge through feedback algorithms. Controlled improvisation allows unexpected melodic patterns to arise, developing and evolving in a continuous dance between the predictable and the surprising.
11:33 Study 4: Mechanical Resonances
Under the guise of physical models and simulations, I investigate signal flows of a chaotic nature that enable the creation of sounds evocative of mechanical resonances endowed with the materiality and texture of real objects. This piece seeks a visceral connection between the screeching sound and the tangible texture of mechanical resonances.
12:57 Study 5: Three Radial Symmetry Patterns
In this study, I apply radial symmetry techniques to generate complex and repetitive sonovisual patterns. Repetitiveness and rhythm are fundamental, creating a sound structure that is both hypnotic and structured, playing with the perception of organic symmetry and asymmetry.
16:00 Study 6: Cycles at the Edge of Bifurcation
The final study explores cycles at the brink of bifurcation, where the system is about to change behavior. This study reflects constant tension and a precarious balance, capturing the essence of transformation and emergence of sound and visual forms.
