I would recommend peeling the plastic off of that charging brick. That little layer of plastic can insulate heat and get melted if the brick gets hot enough.

The fun part is that it was already working... if you see the changelog, it's marked as "UX"... basically, it was just a visual bug, since before the update, when you enabled 25W turbo with 65W+ power input (dock or charger), it would still turbo all the way with 30W stable and turboing to 53W as much as it can.

Not true, I was testing it over the weekend with cyberpunk on a JSAUX hub and the original charger. It never even got close to 43 watts sustained

@@matthewfghjkl The original charger can't handle a hub + turbo 30W... The hub consume 5-15W (depending on model), so you end up with less than 65W. Not even with the new bios you would be able to enable 30W turbo. There is a reason I put "65W+" and not "65W"... you need over 65W.

Now we need to see if that Oculink connector they used for their proprietary USB-C+Oculink, can be used by itself with a 3rd party e-GPU, say a 6800XT, or even a desktop 4080 in a cheap ~$200 eGPU enclosure, would be both cheaper, and much faster than the Asus eGPU, which i beleive is $2000 for a 4080 that is limited to something like 150w, yet still named 4090

Any eGPU enclosure with oculink will work via the M.2 to Oculink. I wouldn't hold my breath for anything working with the proprietary connector.

@JerseyJohnnysElectronicsGaming Yore confirming a recent decision id been doubting. As I was considering the dual fan dock but got the giant 17 inch plus Thermaltake RGB cooling pad with dual fans to put the best reviewed non fan dock on instead. The light show gets annoying foe me but the fans work really well, but the main downside is it's clunky and on the bigger side. Since my Ally already overheated and needed a stay with the Geek Squad and full OS reinstall, I'm not going to push any limits. Thanks!

FYI, What I do on my A1Pro is to max out the TDP and Limit CPU clock (at least not letting go to 4.x turbo) to about 3.5Ghz, and that allows the GPU to go a bit higher in clock. Works well for Forza Horizon and of course many others non-CPU heavy ones.

@@supremepc6298 i don't see much difference above 40w...but it depends on on the game. I would try different games but won't be surprised if there's not much difference. You're probably maxing out clock limit on gpu or something like that

NO, THEY DON'T. After the latest update (today it's August the 13th). We are at square one again. I've a similar type of dock like the one shown in the video image (branded Foison) and the 30w mode and HDMI, that worked before, are now NOT WORKING ANYMORE. It could be my dock that failed but I am more included to think that it's the update.

Same. Have you tried a 100w charger. Might be that the dock is taking some power from the 65w charger and the ally doesn't get all 65w anymore.

@ExecutionerDan i don't currently own a 100W charger. I bought an extra 65W AC adapter when I bought my Ally, too, because I thought that'd be just fine, but now it feels like I shot myself in the foot for not spending a little more on a 100W. Luckily, I don't typically game with my Ally when it's docked. I set it on the dock and have my bt k&m set up to my side and my PS5 and monitor in front of me in my room, and I basically use the Ally as a mini desktop for twitch, discord, watching KZfaq, etc (I don't have a full gaming rig yet, I'm saving up for that) while I play my PS5, and if I wanna actually play with the Ally, then I always unplug the dock and plug the 65W adapter directly into the Ally and play the thing in regular handheld mode (30W turbo) so right now it's not too big of an issue for me. Eventually, I'll pick up a 100W adapter, but it's weird because before the 323 update, on 322 it would max out at 25W turbo docked, but still show that it's receiving 65W PD. I haven't tested that particular aspect yet after the 323 update so I'll come back and reply after I do.

@@adiel5456 The answer is simple. There is a design flaw with the SD card slot, and in order to prevent micro sd cards from failing due to heat, the fan curves must have that setup. Even if you don't use any micro sd card and if you think you know better to set it up manually yourself, this is for a greater good. We will need a Rog Ally 2, or a revision, to make this go away.

I got my Asus stock power adapter one day before the update. Cost 69 USD total in BestBuy online store. I wont return it, however, because It makes it so easy for me to get on the couch and still plug in my wireless headphones which need a USB port. The cable is nice quality and long enough to make it easy for me to use the Asus Ally. I am happy, yes, expensive, but happy overall.

There is marginally better performance from 25 to 30 TDP on most games so it's not worth it. You might damage the sdcard reader and get your device extremely hot for just a few extra FPS. Probably around 3 extra FPS. I want this to be tested in a video and then the recommendations.

Hi I have the JSAUX HB0603 usb-c 6 in 1 and using the 65 watt adapter from ASUS it still gives a 25 watt turbo in armory crate and also the warning in windows and my bios is up to date, but with a 100 watt brick it gives me the 30 watts.

have the 323 BIOS, 2 port extenders, the brand new 7-in-1 even mention "works with 100W PD" but the Ally is not going to the higher settings. I also get some pop up saying "current adapter may result in insufficient power" and "use the included ROG adapter". Have 3 official Asus ROG adapters, one upto 100W. A simple hub however does now work after the BIOS upgrade, showing the 30W and all upto 53W in Manual mode Looks like not all hubs will work

BIOS update did nothing for me unfortunately. But simply using a Power Adapter rated at 100W enabled the Turbo 30W performance. Using the Ugreen dock with mouse, keyboard and PS5 controller setup.

Ok what the hell... My Rog Ally is fully updated and mine does NOT work like this with docks! When I use the OEM 65W charger with multiple different "65W capable" docks, even some of the exact same docks you showed here, it will NOT send 65W to the Ally and it pops up a warning about not getting enough power for proper charging and limits the TDP!

there will not be any EGPU since Ally has only USB 3.2 port instead of Thunderbolt 3 or USB 4.0 that allow you to connect EGPU

My UGREEN GAN chargers are detected to deliver 30 watts including my UGREEN 145 watts power back. Directly connected and even using my 11-in-1 Multi-Function USB-C Docking Station HB1101. I can also get the max refresh rate on this dock plug in my ASUS ROG 240hz monitor.

It seems the bios update hasn't made a difference to my unit. I just received the Jsaux M.2 dock and I'm still getting 25W using the proprietary Ally charger, 35W FPPT🤔

@@1artillery1 Nope, I ended up returning it to Amazon. I now have the official ROG adapter/plug. I tried six docks in total and only the official ROG adapter and the dock for Steam Deck worked.

Thanks for all the great Ally vids ETA PRIME. Jsaux dock + 100w USB-C GaN charger + 100w USB-C cable unlocked the 30w for me. What do you think about the reported 28w TDP limit for the chip as reported by CPU-Z? I've got it set there on a manual for SPL, SPPT and FPPT just now. Only really tested with Darksiders 3 with 4gb VRAM 720p medium/high settings which seems to be running nice and cool with fluctuating FPS up to 60fps but keeping cool at 56C. Game might just generally be poorly optimised tbh. What would be your take on raising the SPPT and FPPT?

upgrade the internal ssd from 512 to 1-2tb. leave the sd slot alone. (i dont even know if my sd works, never even tested it). its placed in an awful spot next to the heatsync, so I don't use it

Steam Deck or The ROG Ally? I use a laptop currently. I have to open it, hit the power button.. close it... I'd like to have my Steam Games and maybe other PC games on my TV through one of these devices.... what's the best configuration for coach gaming using a handheld console?

I would wait until the coming Lenovo Legion Go, it seems a solid product and for the same price, it is literally a Nintendo switch with steroids

Can somebody explained me why the official steam deck dock can't go to 30 Watts turbo mode even after the bios update? What am I doing wrong???

I am using the dock from asus rog ally and when I click on only show on the external monitor on the AMD software the freesync says is not supported even if I am using the original dock plus an active converter from hdmi to dp. It goes up to 120 fps at 1440p and my monitor does support freesync. I don’t know why it doesn’t support freesync. I have tried hdmi and dp 4K and not supported is the result. Could you take a look into it please?

Aren't the temps get too high for long gaming sessions with 81C? - Do you think that the ally was meant to go for this long and this hot? because the performance are great on high TDP

This is awesome news but I’m so confused. So using my charger with Ally I get 30w turbo. If I got the JSAUX dock and use my original charger, it’s capable of being more powerful than 30w turbo? And the bonus SSD is amazing. I was too scared to open my Ally and don’t mind doing this. Haven’t tested my SD card reader yet, need to buy a microSD.
