That's the same questions I have. what wires did you end up getting for the button? I ordered the silver led button, but it didn't come with any wires.
@plantbasedcompanion2252
@plantbasedcompanion2252 7 жыл бұрын
larock0wns first I used 26awg wires but they were too bulky because they were hitting the gpio pins. Then I used 30awg lunar "wire wrapping" wire. I used a little circuit board with holes to solder and mount the switch. Then ran the wires to the pins and wire wrapped them. Then I used some rubber stubs to mount the board with strong double sided 3M tape.

Just did it on my two Retropie Systems. It was nice and easy. Also surprisingly I had no terrible problems with doing it. If I could ask You for a big favor, I'm considering building my retropie into the old console. Would You be able to create a guide on adding reset button functionality as well that instead of shutting Pi down would do soft reset? It would be handy to have both functional buttons. Thanks! :)

This is perfect for what I have in mind, adding a green LED to the front of the Apple IIe Platinum and a Rocker Switch towards the back (keep in mind that Apple Switching PSU's had those rocker switches and I'm going to be grabbing one just for wiring). though I have though of wiring the Rocker switch to the LED and both the LED and the Switch to the Pi. but as far as cases go I'm using a 1993 Apple IIe platinum.

I have one problem... I have done everything like this and your previous videos have stated. I am using a case with a small fan which connects to pins 4&6 like in your diagram. However, the fan always stays on, regardless if the Pi is powered down. The fan only turns off when the Pi is unplugged. Do I need to add some additional script to power down those pins when the Pi is off?

For those that have asked in the comments, I can confirm that this works just fine using a lit arcade style button. Except that you use push-on spade type connectors, there no need to do anything other than follow the tutorial. You can, if need be, power a 12v LED using the 5v RPi supply--it just won't be as bright.

Problem. When i boot up, the led lights up for about 3 seconds and goes out. i thought it was because the blue led was drawing to much power so i switched to a red one, still nothing. i love your videos, i would be pretty much lost without you.

I'm a little confused as far as the links. If you use the silver button, you won't need the 12 Volt Led Packs, since the button has the Led already, correct? And what wires do you suggest to purchase for the button? Excellent video.

First off thank you very much for the video! Say I just want this led to turn on when the PI gets power. Couldn't I just wire off the 3.3v pin and ground? Is there an added benefit to coming off a gpio pin for power? Newbie here so excuse my ignorance.

I am very interested in doing this, but adding the fan into the mix like you have illustrated in the diagram. Does it power the fan with 3.3v or 5v? I am just confused a little because all tutorials I have seen for adding a fan hook it up to one of the voltage pins, and yours does not. Thanks for this wonderfully informative video as always!

Thanks for this. Question, even when it is shutdown and the LED and fan are off it's still not really "off" is it? There is still power going to the board. Is that ok to leave plugged in for weeks on end? Either way this method is better than an inline switch that just cuts power, and you don't have to mess around the UI to shut down.

ETA, for the fan update, I assume that the fan shuts off (powered by 5v on Pin 4)? Do you have to do anything to get the power to shut off to the fan? Thanks for the video, I am waiting on my fan and button to arrive - I may have to add an LED now too.

Couldn't you just wire the LED to 3.3V and Ground? (Red and Yellow are usually 1.9-2.1V, so a resistor would be needed) Blue/Green/White use around 3.2-2.4V, so you could essentially use it without a resistor. However, that is dependent on your LED specs. for example, for a 3.2V 20mA LED, you would only need a 5ohm resistor. Oh, and how did you adhere the button to the FLIRC case?

If you are steady handed and good at soldering, you could rig up a header, attached to the activity LED (Green) and wire that to your button's LED, it'd blink but it'd work. Not recommended because since it's surface mount, very easy to screw something up.

Hi ETA Prime. Is there a chance of frying a Raspberrypie 3 by using a wrong kind of LED? Here is the specs to the LED I tried..... Vf -2.6V Max Vr - 5V max Pd - 100mW max Lf - 25mA Max Lv - 5500 mcd typ The guys at the electronic store I bought some stuff, thought this LED might work when I told them it was for a Pi. I don't know if this LED fried my Pi or if I did something stupid and shorted out the pi's board. I had followed your directions for a momentary switch and a LED, I had it working fine with a arcade button (huge), I want to get something that fits in the small plastic case for the Pi. I just ordered a new Pi, I'm in Canada so the Amazon stuff you have listed is either unavailable on the Canadian Amazon, or it will take over a month to get it from China (the button you use). Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have a hifiberry dac attached to my pi and because of this I can't use pin 5 (GPIO3). GPIO2 and 18-21 also can't used. Can I use a different pin? and if so what changes do I need to do to the script?

+ETA PRIME how do you record the screen of your RPi, do you just use a capture card on your computer?

I think I'd prefer a rocker switch so you know what setting it's in when not plugged in. Harder for a kid or someone to accidentally press it too.

The LED will tell you if the switch is in the ON or OFF setting when it's not plugged in?

This is not in my advanced options. I have no idea how to get this LED to stay on. It pops on at boot, then shuts off.

Can you provide the link for the same button you have? The one you provide is for a black one.
