I wish we could see from an overhead camera what the last step looked like. This is my first time hearing about this. Sounds cool though!

I'm sorry about that! I actually didn't hit record on my overhead camera on for that last bit. I was so frustrated when I went to edit everything (and I didn't have another water bottle to re-do it)! You should be able to see the etching and the weeding hook should easily pull up that powder coating. Then the washcloth (plus elbow grease) takes the rest off.

The Tin Foil method usually has the coating just come right off, hardly any scrubbing required. If you make more, you should try that method. I learned from Makers Gonna Learn! Really like the tumblers you found! Nice tutorial.

I should definitely try it, I just don’t have a heat gun! Letting it sit totally works, but I’m sure the tinfoil makes it faster!

@@HeyLetsMakeStuff Oh, it does. I can do a tumbler with like 10 mins of set time and usually less than 5 mins with a heat gun! Much better than waiting for 2hrs. The lady that created this hack on TikTok does the tinfoil method now.

Hello, I absolutely love this water bottle. The tips you revealed are great. When you talked about putting in elbow grease oh my gosh I could relate. After my first one I stopped because my hands were hurting. I am definitely going to use your tips. May I ask where you purchased the snake design It is beautiful. Thank you for sharing,

Thank you for taking the time to share this process with us! Question: Can you use this method to strip and resurface a sublimation tumbler that you've messed up?

Unfortunately no, because the tumbler has a special sublimation coating. If you strip it, you will lose the coating and it won’t sublimate it anymore.

Does the vinyl color matter or can you use any? What type of vinyl did you use, I apologize if I missed that part! Thanks.

I really like the Cricut Permanent Vinyl (the one in the plastic tube) because it's thin and lays down really well (some of the thicker vinyl makes the CitriStrip application a bit messier). You can use any color-I would use something you're probably not going to use elsewhere since the vinyl ends up in the trash anyway!

Do you think that stencil vinyl would work instead of permanent vinyl for this project because I already have stencil vinyl.

I’ve heard you have to use specific vinyl (not just permanent, but specific brands) to do this. Is that true?

I don’t think so! I used permanent Cricut vinyl, and it worked really well, but I’ve seen others use Oracal no problem.

I removed the vinyl in the bathroom under the running water (no easy way for me to get a camera in there!). I then used the washcloth to rub the coating off after I'd removed the vinyl.

I know, my camera died and I didn't notice and didn't have another water bottle! I am just scrubbing the loose paint with my washcloth.

This stuff didn't work when i used it qent through the vinyl and the design was awful.

@@HeyLetsMakeStuff i used oracle 651 and the citrus stip leaked under the design twice. I used the same stainless cup but on a different part of the cup practicing on it before trying it out on another cup.

For future videos, it would be great if you stay on the overhead view so we can see exactly what you are doing and how it should look. This was a bit frustrating to watch and not get to see what you were doing.

Yes, I am sorry about that. This was one of my earlier videos and my overhead camera died in the middle of filming and I didn't realize. I now have it running on an AC adapter so that doesn't happen anymore. Sorry for any inconvenience!
