The Men's Glee Club of the US Naval Academy performs "Eternal Father, Strong to Save" at the Dallas Symphony "Patriotic Pops" concert, Meyerson Symphony Center, Dallas, TX. November 12, 2016.
Stained-glass window in the USNA Chapel depicts Psalm 107. Inspired by the dangers of the sea described in Psalm 107, "Eternal Father" was first adopted in 1879 for devotional use and benedictions in the armed services. In that year, Lieutenant Commander Charles Jackson Train, master of the Midshipman Choir, began the practice of concluding Divine Services with the 1861 version of the hymn every Sunday, whereby it eventually became an academy, and then a service-wide, tradition, becoming known as the Navy Hymn. The lyrics were altered to suit changes in the culture and technology of the navy (Wikipedia).
