I served twenty years in the Corps. Agent orange has affected my liver with cancer. I am getting radiation treatment next month now that the liver mapping preparatory is completed. The Lord provides for my needs. Don’t know how much time I have left. I offer this Hymn for all Marines who face our foes yet. This hymn gives me peace.

I'm a Sailor currently (studying to earn the title of Hospital Corpsman) and My Father and My Uncles are Marines, this reminds me of the bond we share as a whole.

Navy Chaplain Captain Joseph Seim wrote the Marine verse. He spent most of his Navy career serving with Marines. I served with him in 3d Marine Division in 1974/1975 - He as a Navy Captain and I was a Captain of Marines.

As a member of the Bluejacket Choir, this brought back so many memories. I remember Dr. Williams (choir director) telling us that this hymn should be sung with the reverence and remembrance that it so much deserved. Those sailors and Marines that gave their last full measure of devotion deserved nothing less.

The first time I heard this hymn was in 1968 while I was going through Navy Boot Camp at The Naval Training Center Great Lakes, IL. I heard this hymn countless number of times during my long Navy career during burials at sea, memorial services for fallen sailors and the like. I also served two tours of duty with the Marines for which this hymn is also dedicated. Listen to the music, follow the words and you will understand why this song is so special and meaningful for the sailors and Marines around the world both past and present.

It also highlights our connection with the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.

1st time I heard this was in the boot camp chapel. It calmed my soul and gave me a lift of spirit. There in the chapel I realized how so many marines and sailors had perished in the past. It gave me a proper perspective.

1 Eternal Father, strong to save, Whose arm does bind the restless wave, Who bids the mighty ocean deep Its own appointed limits keep; O hear us when we cry to Thee For those in peril on the sea. 2 O Savior, whose almighty word The winds and waves submissive heard, Who walked upon the foaming deep, And calm amid the rage did sleep; O hear us when we cry to Thee For those in peril on the sea. 3 O Holy Spirit, who did brood Upon the waters dark and rude, And bid their angry tumult cease, And give for wild confusion peace; O hear us when we cry to Thee For those in peril on the sea. 4 O Trinity of love and pow'r, Your children shield in danger's hour; From rock and tempest, fire, and foe, Protect them where-so-e'er they go; Thus, evermore shall rise to Thee Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

All hail the mighty glow cloud Well that depends on what qualifies someone to be classified as a sailor. I believe he was a graduate of the naval academy, he was a naval aviator. He served on an aircraft carrier during war time and took off and was recovered on an aircraft carrier prior to becoming a POW. Does that qualify him as a sailor?
