Welcome to our part 2 of our ETF investing mini-series: a 5-part podcast series, aimed at building your confidence when it comes to researching, comparing and building an ETF portfolio.
In this episode, Kate & Owen walk listeners through how to work out what kind of ETF you’re looking for, and how it forms part of your broader investment strategy. We also explain what a Core/Satellite Portfolio is, understanding your risk profile and whether ETF unit size matters.
Make sure to listen to part 1 of our ETF investing mini-series, if you haven’t already.

Liking the series far, just wanted to mention that I have both IVV and VGS in my core as they are slightly different in that VGS is not just US based companies,

Being 47 should I be looking at maxi my super rather than in ETF's, to the max allowed for super under salary sac, although atm my super is low cost balance, or should I build up my core ETF's and say invest 700pf for the next 15 years?

Did you get an answer to your question? - consider ‘post tax concessional contributions’ too if you haven’t been hitting the cap every year, as the cap is averaged over 5 years now. If you were say $10k short in the 2019 fin year, you can contribute that up to June 2024 and get a $10k tax deduction, minus 15% paid for super tax. If you were on 32.5% tax rate, that’s $1750 tax back for you and $10k goes into your super to be invested.

Hi Zinash, you should watch the list to the first question of today's Australian Investors Podcast (it's our slightly more advanced channel but we covered the DZZF ETF today -- a super popular Core ethical/ETF ETF). www.raskmedia.com.au/2022/10/01/2-sense-our-3-biggest-mistakes-investing-100k-core-lithium-cxo-dzzf-twilio-twlo-owen-says-dubber-dub-is-a-no-go-rural-funds-group-asxrff/

May i ask a noob question???? Why don't we value ETFS or time the market with them such as a sector that is overvalued?

ETFs tend to be best used as long term investments because they (at times) have hundred or thousands of stocks/bonds/whatever inside them. Oftentimes they go across sectors or markets. Some thematic ETFs are indeed designed for shorter times, like 2-3 years.

Rask Australia but they can definitely be used as ‘tactical’ or ‘satellite’ tilts on a portfolio too. Cheers mate! Owen
