Toronto Police Emergency Task Force officers used their vehicles to ram a stolen U-Haul van at Carlton and Church Sts. They arrested a 49-year-old man with a handgun in the process. The suspect had allegedly abducted a person earlier in the day and was wanted in connection with the stabbing of an off-duty Toronto Police officer who tried to thwart a group of robbers at a Best Buy on Progress Rd. at Scarborough Town Centre on Dec. 6

I was on Bathurst just south of Eglinton and he flew by me in the oncoming lanes like he was in a rush to return the rental van. We thought maybe there was something that happened between this vehicle and any one of the Jewish schools in the area, a very short time later non stop police and swat went by, we could see the helicopter circling. It would be nice to know about the arrested person besides being 49 years old, from where? , how long in Canada? Is he a Canadian citizen? What lead up to this?

As a person who has had family that has been in law enforcement and friends who are also in law enforcement I have a lot of respect for those who put themselves in harms way to protect us , which is at times a thankless job! Each province municipalities have a role in enforcing the laws and making amendments to present laws and changing laws . For the comments about Trudeau or cops running away. If you think you can do it any better, there are many police departments looking to hire . I do agree that more needs to be, that also starts with us , instead of turning away and doing nothing

While I do believe a properly functioning society obviously needs some form of law enforcement, I lost respect for cops when I witnessed their behavior towards Canadian citizens during the truckers convoy. Sadly our cops are there to protect the government elites from the citizens. They are not there to protect us and our property.
