I saw this at the NYC public library with Ethan Hawke talking afterwards and I was just floored. What an amazing movie, amazing subject and thrilling performance by Ben Dickey.

Ethan Hawke is an amazing actor. His performance in First Reformed was harrowing and if you go through his list of movies they're all so good! Cool to see him on here!

What a great movie. I didn't know Ethan directed and produced it, definitely appreciate that. I love that Blaze got a movie, his music is incredible. He was a great poet, fantastic musician. Towns is well known, but Blaze was a hidden gem. I'm so glad this movie was made

I love this movie, "Blaze" is a modern classic. I have already watched it multiple times. I never knew these characters but we all know them in our own way. I've chased down a road or two of my own and in my way I have known lot's of great voices. Singing their own songs though I'm not sure anyone knows their names. Ty for a great film that did not take the easy route. Great and I would love to see an extended or directors cut. I swear I could tell after seeing it once that I would be plumbing bobing these depths or lack there of. ✌️♥️🙇

This project gave me a new found appreciation for Ethan Hawke. Never really thought much about his acting either way, but he has shown another side of himself with this movie and his deep understanding of Blaze and life in general. I already was a huge huge Blaze fan and I find so many similarities between Ben Dickey and I. Large size musicians who can cook for a living and love to play Blaze Foley songs. Good on you guys!

My guess is that Ethan planned to sing, but Ben Dickey was on a roll, so Ethan chose to ask Ben to do another rather than play himself. A wonderful, selfless, spontaneous decision, seems to me...

I just watched a movie excellent Ethan masterful I am a fan now I'm a big country western fan in the first place and I feel like a jerk that I've never heard of Blaze after I realized I've heard a few of his songs and I didn't know it was him thank you so much for making this movie both of you are excellent .. I tip my proverbial hat to Hawke....what a beautiful movie, fantastic. Not many movie stars can express real art.....His direction nailed it. I also enjoyed his performance as the jazz horn player/vocalist Chet Baker. Both r wonderful movies telling the story of the artist’s commitment & internal battle, often a double standard involving the use of artistic expression to quiet the demons, yet crashing through self destruction as a result of self medicating those same voices.

I bought the movie cause I saw kris on the front of the case(I’m a huge Kris Kristofferson fan), not knowing it was a movie about Blaze Foley. When I found out with was about him I kinda freaked out and was instantly hooked when I heard Clay Pigeons playing. Great movie Ethan. Hope you make another one about Townes.

Blaze was a very wise man and cared deeply about his fellow man. I don't believe the movie captured his true spirit, but maybe what Blaze had in his heart really couldn't be.. captured. He did so much good for so many people, on a daily basis. Entirely aside from his music, if Blaze had never sang one word or played one note, Most everyone whose path crossed his would've been better for it. Most. And Charlie really nailed the Townes role. He sure did.

Townes van Zandt must also have been a huge influence, a lot of similarities in the music. Sure Hawke is the known name in this interview, but Ben Dickey is the star of this show. A lot of us will look up Blaze's music after this.

ethan hawke is so bad arse...ive met him....such a genuine nice artsty fella....who does some stuff to have the loot to do the real stuff....so nice....i once radnomly was meeting with an old friend from baltimroe where ive not lived longer than have as he happened to be in santa fe, as a musician, he asked me, more of a live actor performer and former film festival director, who at the time was wroking at hte lil indie cinema george rr martin had bought in santa fe and wed jsut shown a terrific sci fi indie ethan was in....joshua asked me about actors i respect i thoguht of hawke cuz he does stuff like mag 7 remakes, no marvel nonesense, etc while also working ith lnklater, writing scripts poetry short stories, palying music, and making random docs....his intor quote serves the point...anywya shortly after mentoining him, without me knowing he was intown, he walks by in the resttaruant with his kids....later i met him conversationally again more and he loved that story and when i said my lady friend loved that sci fi indie he double entendre'd slearlty saying she has good test....jsut a gneuiine cat....thanks for this and KEXP is awsome too thanks says this volunteer community disc jockey - SJOCR

Blaze and Townes were under appreciated (besides fellow writers) when alive.

Blaze was usually Townes' babysitter and crutch since he was generally too drunk or high to walk.

First glance at the thumbnail I swear I thought it was Brandon Flowers for a few seconds until I read the title and it said Ethan Hawke Then i thought Ethan Hawke was in a band for a few minutes until I read the numerous comments below that were just as confused as me. look out Criss Angel KEXP is mind f**kin' too.

It feels like Ethan might have enjoyed growing up in Austin through the 70's 80;s early 90's. I can't blame him it was pretty Amazing. :)

MILD SPOILER AHEAD! There already is a movie about a musician who didn't make it. It's called "Inside Llewyn Davis" and it's pretty good. That said, I'd still love to see a movie about Blaze Foley.

Awesome, but the original lyrics was ""Play my songs for the people I meet"" swear to God.. But in this song he tells you that ""change the words to this song"" Blaze was An awesome songwriter like Towns Van Zant . Blaze was murdered by a piece of s*** son who was abusing his dad and Blaze stood up for him and died a heroes death. RIP. I'm glad you guys had time for a kid like me in '84.
