My 2012 odyssey was having issues with the catalytic converter/ sensors. I used a cleaner that I bought at the local auto store to clean it out which did work for about a month but the service engine light came back on. I thought about using the cleaner again but instead tried using non ethanol 90. I took the van on a four hour trip, mostly highway mileage driving between 70 and 80 mph. It fixed the problem, service engine light went out on its own and the van has been driving awesome! I have 210,000+ miles on the odyssey and it now drives like new. Non ethanol is a game changer and absolutely gets better miles per gallon.

Something to know is at the pump a single handle for all grades means if someone used 87 ethanol and you fill up with nonethanol with that noozle you are getting ethanol in your gas. If you're using a single noozle pump always pump the first half gallon in your car before putting into your jug. This will ensure you're getting full nonethabol. Just a thought.

I'm a small engine mechanic, 90% of what we work on is carb jets being clogged. Ethanol gas gums up alot faster than non, our neighbors are harley mechanics and they make alot of money off gummed up carbs too.Say what u want. I make a living working on small engines. It destroys 2 strokes gas lines. You can take 2 weedeaters, 1 with 100% trufuel and 1 with ethanol gas oil mix and the 1 with trufuel will last 3-4 times longer. My 2 cents

The manufacturer should state whether they have made the engine adapted for ethanol E10, at least here in Sweden, probably. therefore there is a list of which manufacturers have cars that are approved for E10. Then there are additives such as red light which should reduce some of the disadvantages of ethanol

I agree, I would get 1,000 kilometer per tankfull when filling in Detroit with pure gas on my Ford Windstar 2001. However tanking up in Canada with Ethenol mix, the best I could do was 800 kilometers per tankful. Crazy thing is our pulp and paper mill makes celelos/pulp filler for our food, while using our corn fields for ethonol fuel for our cars. Who ever is pushing this is nuts.

AND that is because injected engines are so computer controlled that you can run semi-processed feces in them and they would still (poorly) function. Ethanol is a government crony scheme to extract money from people that believe the global (warming, cooling, change) BS. If you have a carbureted engine, ethanol is your worst enemy.

Thanks for your input. I've been using non ox 91 octane in my 212cc snow blower. Bought a new lawnmower a month ago. will be using the same fuel. Ethanol has less btu than gas. I'm not worried about that for mowing grass, but for a snow blower, I am interested for the bit of extra umph. E10 in my vehicle with an occasional fuel line treatment.

MPG on e85 varies by engine and vehicle. Easiest way to prevent water, use stabilizer and keep the tank full so there's no condensation. I do agree that 90 e0 would be great for long term storage, but it's usually more expensive than 93 so not worth it on the daily.

Here in Europe, the situation is different. Here it says E5 at 98 octane, for example in Sweden and Great Britain. and then means up to 5%. Which in practice can mean zero to 3%. Note that we do not measure octane in the same way in Europe. So 98 octane in Europe is like 93 octane in the US. but if it's Germany you can apparently fill up with 102 octane according to the European way of measuring octane Here, lower octane has E10 of ethanol here in Sweden. The exception is acrylated gasoline. It does not need Ethanol. there is no reduction obligation on it. duty to reduce is a law for fuels in Sweden. i.e. that you have to mix something into the fuel that will reduce emissions, otherwise you will instead have to pay higher taxes for that fuel as the petrol company

When I can I use it mixed with gum out octane booster myself truthfully that's just me though. I don't know about everyone else on that part of it. Each to their own on the matters to though. I just know it raises fuel octane level up.& The sta bil fuel stabilizer fuel treatment blocks out moisture from the outside air from every opening& closing your fuel tank to check it.,or when refueling up again to. Myself I agree with you on not using Ethanol fuel for motorcycle.,or small engines either instead I recommend what I described in the comments talking about mixing both as your fuel enhancer for peak power quality.& Maximum performance output in small engines.& Even in regular gasoline engines to. They've even have the diesel type of that fuel treatment to.

Now, however, there are those who compare E85 with racing fuel because of the high octane content. Then contains more oxygen as well. and racing fuel is not cheap, definitely not in Sweden. on Dyno test So it will simply be better torque and more horsepower than regular gasoline at the gas station. Especially if the engine is mapped for E85

Folks don't realize that ethanol is just another octane booster. The E-free options are usually premium grade, cost more, and use different boosters. It's been known since they first came out that ethanol will attract water if left sitting for an extended time and is incompatible with older fuel lines. Go to the drag strip, many racers prefer E-85 because it burns cooler and higher compression can be used. Common native 'switch grass' is a much more efficient means of producing ethanol. But most of the ethanol corn growers are large corporate 'farms' and have most of the politicians in their pockets. Especially in the "corn states." Some history..." Ethanol’s first use was to power an engine in 1826, and in 1876, Nicolaus Otto, the inventor of the modern four-cycle internal combustion engine, used ethanol to power an early engine. Ethanol also was used as a lighting fuel in the 1850s, but its use was curtailed when it was taxed as liquor to help pay for the Civil War. Ethanol use as a fuel continued after the tax was repealed, and fueled Henry Ford’s Model T in 1908. The first ethanol blended with gasoline for use as an octane booster occurred in the 1920s and 1930s, and was in high demand during World War II because of fuel shortages."

I put a Zinc boat anode into the gas tank of one of my bikes as an experiment 4 years ago and all the "fish paste" in the carb float bowl, hose rotting and the fuel system corrosion damage stopped. Boat anodes aren't cheap though and I keep planning to fish it out and cut it into quarters and use it in some of the other bikes I have here. Ethanol also drops the fuel vapourisation point. Unleaded petrol has a vapourisation point of 35 degrees Centigrade. E10 petrol has a vapourisation point of 18 degrees Centigrade. Instead of the fuel mixture vapourising just before TDC, on a hot engine, it vapourises as soon as it hits the cylinder wall causing overheating, power loss, a noticeable drop in low end torque, sooted up plugs and poor fuel economy. Fuel injected motors with an ECU can attempt to manage this but carb engines can't. Adding a small quantity of Kerosene or Diesel into the fuel will hike the vapourisation point back to something sensible and restore the power and fuel economy losses. Here in the UK we have E5 petrol, so not as bad as in the US yet. Give it time..... I run between 2% and 3% diesel (2ml to 3ml per litre) in my own bikes and my son does the same. I stopped doing it in his ride to work bike and he thought that there was something wrong with the engine and asked me to take a look at it. A pretty good double blind test result. We're running low revving high torque high compression 2 stroke road bikes running between 9.8:1 and 10.6:1. I haven't experimented with a 4 stroke yet as the problems that 4 strokes have other variations. The diesel (or Kerosene) is acting as a fuel stabilizer, there is not enough to give a significant calorific energy hike to the fuel being burnt. Ethanol has 2/3rd the calorific energy value of unleaded gasoline and leaded gasoline has 1/3rd more calorific energy content again over unleaded. I used to drag race bikes back in the late 1980's and "tuning" the fuel was key to success.

Cool video BTW! @0.55 you say that we'll get 7 - 8% worse gas mileage on E10 for carbureted motors, which is to say we’ll get 7 - 8% better mileage on ethanol-free E0. Is that what you've seen on your motorcycle? Because I did two tank tests on my carbureted motorcycle and analyzed the exhaust gases using a wide-band UEGO (Universal Exhaust Gas Oxygen) gauge, so I could have data to share with other riders. On my first tank, which was a 68%/32% mix of E0/E10, I just took my bike to the station and filled up. I’d never run E0 prior to that, so I just thought it was as easy as putting it in my tank and getting better power and tank range. Shortly after setting out, like 5 miles out, my coolant temps began to drop, which I thought was cool! No pun intended. lol My AFR dropped too, just over 0.5, from the AFR I typically see on E10. I was clearly getting a richer mixture than I typically see from E10. But after riding 160 miles, my mileage dropped 4%. That's 11 - 12% worse overall than what you're getting. Lightbulb moment. Duh! Stoich for E0 is 14.7:1. My bad. So I dropped my jetting 8%, which allowed me to attain E0 stoich, which is suppose to be maximum efficiency at steady highway cruise. This time, when I filled up my ratio was 99%/1% E0/E10 and same route as before. However, while the E0 jetting allowed me to manage a fairly stable 14.7:1 AFR for 153 miles, I only came up 4% better than typical E10 range. Maybe this is just the maximum for my bike, but I was left feeling somewhat bummed. There were a couple of side effects from ethanol-free E0 also that concerned me, that if they were covered, I must have missed. One was that E0 at stoich made my coolant temperatures noticeably higher than E10 (that thermal energy potential, for sure!) and my new E0 jetting would no longer work with E10. After running the E0 out of the tank, I filled up with E10 again and my AFR was off the scale lean ~15.6:1. My bike surged and ran terrible. What the heck? This blew me away. If I wanted to get the maximum distance from E0, I had to rejet for it. And now that I did, I'm not able to use E10 again. I stopped as soon as I could and drained the E10 out. I didn't want to ruin my motor from an obviously harmful lean mixture. How are you able to switch back and forth between the two fuels to get such exceptional results? Like did you have to rejet your bike? I’m wondering if there is a different AFR for ethanol-free I should try.

I pretty much agree with what has been said here. I use avgas in my weedeaters and chain saws but premium in my motorcycles and rider lawn mowers. But I did have an ultralight airplane with a Cuyuna two cylinder two stroke motor that would not give any indication at all of wanting to start after sitting just four months and that was using premium fuel. Had to drain and pour in new premium and it would start right away. My Harley is better but does start harder on four or five month old premium. Most engines will start just fine but there is some degradation of premium fuel or all engines would start good. I don't know what the difference is, spark, more compression? I had a wood splitter with a Honda motor that would start on three year old gas within three pulls on the recoil. So premium does age some but is negligible for most engines.

E-85 does not get 25% less gas mileage, when you switch from regular fuel to E-85 that happens until the computer can recalculate it's settings, once it is done recalculating the mileage isn't much different from regular fuel but it does lose some performance.
@WHOTEEWHO
@WHOTEEWHO 6 жыл бұрын
Its "recalculating" changes the performance of the engine and still does not get better gas mileage. However 95% of the cars on the road do not have rhat technology so that point is irrelevant. Have you been drinking rhe koolaid?

I noticed in the last week or two that I am getting substantially more MPG using the same gas as always. I drive approx. 300 highway miles 3 or 4 times a week. We are now at the end of the summer season. After watching this video, I now believe I know where the extra MPG came from. THEY STOPPED ADDING ETHANOL TO THE GASOLINE.
@erikwalters5142
@erikwalters5142 4 жыл бұрын
conrad b ~~ You're never using the same gas as always. It might be from the same maker but oil companies have to maintain certain regulated standards for gas. In the hotter times of the years, oil companies switch to their "summer blend" which has to do mainly with how fast the gas will evaporate. In the fall, they switch back over to what they call "winter blend" gasoline which has a noticeable effect on the power output resulting in better or worse gas mileage. Ethanol isn't the reason for your added or decreased mileage.

I have a small fleet of vehicles. I live out in the Mohave desert. Not far from where airliners get stored during low air traffic times. I have an '03 Ford Explorer that I bought new. I hardly drive it these days. I keep it for a backup vehicle and mild off roading. It is E-85 ready. And has a juice up ignition plus a Flowmaster exhaust, and ceramic thermal barrier coated headers. It runs best on E-85, for power. And sounds sweeter too. Fuel economy is very close up to 65mph. At 77mph, there is a 10% drop in fuel economy. At 85mph and higher the fuel economy is slightly better for E-85. Methanol, which is way worse than ethanol, and is a 1 carbon alchohol. Ethanol is a 2 carbon alcohol. Butanol is a 4 carbon alcohol. All 3 will reduce emmisions. But butanol will not cause the problems that methanol and ethanol have. Plus it will get the same fuel economy. And with a lubricity agent added, can be run in diesel engines. One pump for all vehicles that run a liquid fuel. So why do we have the ethanol mandate in fuel? Presidential politics. Butanol is a byproduct of the oil refining process, like mthanol. Ethanol is efficiently made from corn. Since Iowa is the big start of the Presidential campaign process. George W. Bush had the EPA mandate a level of ethanol usage. Before that, only a few states like here in California added ethanol.

I live in a Minneapolis home and I do put non ethanol (non oxygenated) gas for my lawn mower and motorcycle. It is my first winter now and I can't take the motorcycle out for the next 6 months. I did put stabil inside the tank, the lawnmower and the plastic gas storage tank. I have searched everywhere and I have not got a reply yet and I would like to know if stabil was even necessary? I fear since my garage isn't insulated and it gets below freezing temperatures here moisture might build up even for the non oxygenated gas. Can you please share your thoughts?

+Sanhiriyan if you put stabil in it and no ethanol gas you should absolutely be fine. Im not sure if the stabil would be necessary, but my thought are better to be safe than sorry. I separated the ethanol out of some 2 stroke i had on accident. (Gas cap off during a storm) drained it and sat in a sealed bottle for over a year. (Kinda forgot about it) needed gas one day and said i can try this stuff. Pored off gas until it got close to the separation line and year old 2 stroke ran great.
