Sorry, I'm an amature, what do you mean by that? I have strung outdoor CAT6 cables from my server room, outside and back into each floor of my house where I hope to be able to terminate with two plugs on each floor; one for a local, floor level wifi and the other for people to plug into. What do you suggest?
@iansmith3930
@iansmith3930 4 жыл бұрын
Be careful ... most RJ45 connectors have a single point to pierce the wire and are intended to be used with stranded patch cable (the single point pushes through the middle of the strands). The ethernet cable for use between wall boxes is single strand and intended to be terminated into a fork in the wall box. Terminating the single strand cable into a standard RJ45 crimp can produce a very poor and unreliable connection.

Thank you very much! Good explanation! Subscribed! What I don't understand is why you make to the router 2 ethernet clips. You can only make one and plug it in the router right? Because the dat from pc A goes over orange and green. And the pc B uses brown and blue. So you got enough with 1 clip (1 cable) on the router side. Maybe the router port where you set it on is not 1gbps. Thats the reason you seperate it so both pcs can use 100 mbit. Is that right?
@ElectronicsComputers
@ElectronicsComputers 3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter if it's 1Gbps or 100Mbps port. One Ethernet port supports only one single connection. For a 100Mbps network we need only 4 wires which means we can connect 2 devices via one Ethernet cable which has 8 wires. So we need 2 different ports on both ends.
@metalillness5951

Thank you. I have a question. If you are only using two pairs for each connection at the devices, then why do you need to split them on the end that goes to the router? Is there some voo doo inside the router or switch that won't allow 2 being used on one port?
@ElectronicsComputers
@ElectronicsComputers 4 жыл бұрын
One Ethernet port provides connection only for one device. If it's 100MBps network then it uses only 4 wires other 4 pins inside of a switch/router don't even connected. So we need to split wires on both ends in order properly wire them. You just imagine that you use two independent Ethernet cables with 4 wires inside. But in our case we have one cable with 8 wires inside.

This won’t be possible I’m afraid, as gigabit need all pairs be used following by the color standards. The best will be in you case to bind it at the router true load balance, then go to a Ubnt USG to control your network and from the end go further by connecting a switch. So from the switch you can go in different Gigabit lines on method is by using VLAN true the USG And switch. If want more info or proposal drop me a line at dimitri.ibizi@icloud.com

By doing this you can have problems like higher MS ping, crosstalk, limited speed to max 100 Mbps and not able to use as POE adapter. Also your color code disrespect creates future problems if you have multiple devices like an alarm or camera or other ict lan devices. Anyway it is a solution that works well for small use with its limits. The first 2 pairs are for LAN the other 2 pairs are not used. So in a traditional CAT cable you have the option of use 2lan, 1lan and phone or 1lan and 2 phones. Or use of backup line from other source Incase you have 2 isp providers. But keep in mind to make a drawing of the colors and place you used them so it’s easy in the future when need changes to identify and upgrade if needed.

no it doesn't work that way. You have to divide your bandwidth (30Mbps) by the number of devices connected to your switch or router. But again even in this case it doesn't work that way. Because on PC can draw more data from the internet than the other one. So the speed may vary between all PCs but the whole bandwidth will be not higher than your maximum 30Mbps.

For most applications, PoE will still work, you just have to make sure that the device supplying the PoE (switch, NVR, injector, etc) supports PoE "Mode A". See the "10/100 mode A, mixed DC & data" section of the table at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_over_Ethernet#Pinouts also see my video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jq-erdFnu9Cxk4E.html where I test that PoE works.

Would it be possible for a T shaped cable?
@ElectronicsComputers
@ElectronicsComputers Жыл бұрын
It depends on how you see it. If you have one Ethernet outlet in your room and you want to connect for example your PC and Xbox, then you can make a T cable with one end that goes to the wall and the split side goes to both devices. So for your room it kind of looks like a T cable. But in reality, the cable that goes from your outlet to your basement or whatever and then connects to a switch should also be split and have two connectors. Because one Ethernet port can only support one device. And one Ethernet connection requires only 4 wires and your cable has eight. So we just use the other four wires to connect another device with the same cable.

Just keep in mind that 4 pairs are usually cat5e which gives 1000Mb. Using 2 pairs is compatible only with 100Mb/10Mb. There is no magic. You transformed good quality cable into two bad quality ones. If you instead used switch on both ends and used Cat5e you'd have 1000Mb instead of 100Mb.
@ElectronicsComputers
@ElectronicsComputers Жыл бұрын
You're wrong! With 4 wires you can achieve maximum 100Mbps. For the 1000Mbps connection you need all 8 wires. Just like you said there's no magic here.

You can't extend the DATA line but you can extend power from PoE port. For example, if your switch has few PoE ports and a bunch of regular ports you can connect blue and brown wires from regular ports to brown and blue wires of PoE ports. Brown wires are DC positive and Brown wires are DC negative.

@@ElectronicsComputers There is no need to put striped-blue on pin 1 and solid-blue on pin 2. IMO you should try to resemble the T568A and T568B standards as much as possible when splitting. In both of those standards, striped-blue is on pin 5 (to the right) and solid-blue is on pin 4 (to the left). Therefore, IMO it's best to keep striped-blue to the right (pin 2) and solid-blue to the left (pin 1), when splitting. The pre-made splitters I bought online had striped-blue to the right and solid-blue to the left, but the splitters I made myself a while ago had the opposite. Only when I did a continuity test on a cable run that had a pre-made splitter on one end and a self-made splitter on the other end, that I realized I had cross-over on the blue pair, which should be avoided.
@NathanielBlack12
@NathanielBlack12 2 жыл бұрын
@@cosmicdude7721 it should work if you do it correctly. I do believe that combining two 100Mbps links into a single cable (via this splitting method) does increase the risk of crosstalk issues because you are essentially placing the conductors of each link much closer together than they would be if they were just separate cables bundled close together. Because of this, I try to use Cat6 cable for my split runs as Cat6 typically has a plastic separator running through the cable that keeps the pairs further away from each other than they are in a Cat5e cable. Cat6 cable also has other design elements that reduce crosstalk. That being said, during testing I've simultaneously viewed the main streams (16Mbps each) of 2 Hikvision cameras that were combined/split over 120 metres (so 20% over the length limit) of Cat5e cable. I noticed no issues with either video stream during that test. The 120 metres was actually made of 4x 30 metre patch cables (24 AWG stranded pure copper) coupled together. Each camera was also being powered by PoE over that 120 metre run, during that test.

If your cable goes from one router to the second one and then you connect your PC to the second router by cable then there will be slight drop in speed which will be way higher if you connect your PC via Wi-Fi to the second router. Your router usually has a one WAN port and about 4 ethernet ports for a local network. So if you connect your that cable in any of those local network ports and then your PC in any of those ports (we don't use WAN port) then your router will work as an Ethernet switch so no drop of speed at all. But in that case your second router will not work as a Wi-Fi router. @@asimmehmoodali7167

I don't know how is your network organized... You need to attach an RJ45 connector to the blue and brown pairs at the router side (so now you can connect two connectors to your router) and then do the same thing in your room. In case if you have an Ethernet wall outlet in your room then you need to divide the cable into two lines that you plug into the outlet.

For home use, have at this hack. If you're a professional low voltage cabling contractor or an electrician running cable for a business infrastructure, or even running cable for someone's home, please don't do this. This eliminates POE and gigabit capabilities, and it's just extra work when you could simply pull another cable. Being that there is no industry acceptance of this method, there's a good chance you may miss a pin or punch down wrong. Just not worth it unless you really want to be cheap.
@binba9
@binba9 2 жыл бұрын
And what if you're retrofitting old construction and pulling another cable is next to impossible? This kind of hack should almost never be used... but in specific cases, including at a business, it totally can do the trick. :) I'd recommend clearly labeling the port with its limitations (100Mb, no PoE)
@NathanielBlack12
@NathanielBlack12 2 жыл бұрын
It doesn't eliminate PoE capability, you can only use the PoE standards that don't require more than 2 pairs, which is fine for most PoE applications.
