Actually very bad piloting skills. Play it back at 0.25 speed and you can clearly see the massive aileron inputs causing the oscillation. It's even more clear in the other video of this incident'

I have experienced a landing like that a year ago at London Gatwick Airport. It was absolutely frightening, the plane hit the runway ,wobbled, and then bounced round a little before it came to stopped safety. Thank God we were all OK.

Not a hard landing. Silly click baitish title. There was no G-forces on the airframe hence not a "hard landing". What happened is that due to the tilting of the plane the kinetic energy had to be absorbed from just the right landing gear then shifted to the left before balancing out. The touch down seemed a bit early and fast in my opinion.

That's what I was thinking too. Those Ethiopian Airlines Pilots are well seasoned and one of a kind. I'm quite surprised that this is happening to an Ethiopian. But I can understand shit happens as well.

In the other video you can see from the front that the aileron or whatever it is on this plane is being slammed up and down with the wings following the inputs. You can just make it out in this video too but it's not as obvious. Best watched at 0.25 speed to see it

Not a pretty landing, by any means, but not a “hard landing” by the technical definition, either. These days pilots can’t get away with smacking the airplane in to the ground without telling anyone. Airlines have telemetry systems that report straight to their main base of operations. A hard landing would show up on telemetry and be automatically flagged by a computer, triggering a required maintenance inspection.

Yea it was the wind. Earlier a Latam 767 went around because of wind so most likely it was thw wind that caused this

@@treasurecoastfirebuff Except this is a blatant case of pilot induced oscillations. The wind wasn't THAT bad as seen by the windsocks and you can see full scale deflections in the ailerons and the moment period coincides with PIO as well. Seen this myself numerous times as a part 121 check airman. This is poor airmanship, period.

The plane got tilted forward then the pilot tried to pull it back then bam the aircraft was not stable them they hit hard that’s why. That is just poor piloting skills. He just put a tremendous load on the right main, to the point that the airplane will have to probably be pulled from service, until maintenance inspects it. Whatever happened, it wasn't good, and a go around should have been executed.
