I wis red wolves got more attention, their close to extinction at 22 in the wild estimated and 263 in captivity. Bringing them back and thinning coyotes may help with deer and wild pigs rampant in their hoe range of south.southeast US

Yeah! Conservation efforts have shown that the Ethiopian wolf decreased rodents, consequently reducing zoonotic diseases that affect humans too. These wolves are real gems that need to be protected at all costs. The only thing I have found online is a Wolf Ambassador program.

I'd never heard of the Ethiopian wolf, so thank you for teaching me about them! I will, however, dispute that they are the rarest wolf in the world. The North American Red Wolf (Canis rufus) has fewer than 300 individuals total, with only 20-22 in the wild as of January 2024.

I must tell you Danielle your show never fails to amaze me with information on species I have never heard of. Spending a lifetime of watching any and every animal doc made, that really is saying something! I am basically a 61 year old child, in a skinny, wrinkled old body! Every time I think to myself, well that's probably the last animal I will ever find, that I didn't know about. How many times you have proven that wrong?! Many! Humans and our ego's, lol. Isn't the world, and the nature all around us fascinating, and always exciting!? We can live a life of a hundred years, and not really know very much about the world around us! There is always something new to learn! Thank you girl, for teaching this old dog a few new tricks!

I'm sorry, but alphas aren't what you think it means. Rudolph Schenkel's study on wolf pack dynamics was methodologically unsound when he studied captive, unrelated wolves placed into an enclosure together. I like the description that a friend who's worked with wild wolves said. "Alphas are nurturers. They're Pack Dad/Mom and carry around a proverbial fanny pack full of snacks."

Red wolf (Canis rufus) yes. The Mexican grey wolf (Canis lupus baileyi) although endangered, it's a subspecies of a species the Grey wolf (Canis lupus) that's status is of least concern, so as a species the Ethiopian wolf (Canis simensis) is endangered, that it's self has two recognised subspecies, the Northern Ethiopian wolf (Canis simensis simensis) and the Southern Ethiopian wolf (Canis simensis citernii). The Grey wolf (Canis lupus) as a species is not endangered so the Mexican subspecies gets over looked.
