I am thankful for a great review, but I could not get over the "music" loop, that I pretty much hate after I spent several hours listening to it on Etihad hotline, trying to get at least some value out of my Topbonus miles and book roundtrip to Australia.. :) But that's just me. Keep up the good work.. :)

I flew with Etihad in July and most part was good, the food was delicious and the crews were friendly. I agree with your point of view regarding the airport part, I was sleeping at AUH overnight for more than 6 hours and it was a pain...

I've taken the B787-9 from Paris to Lyon. It's awesome, the plane doesn't make any sound on sky and the new business class of Air France is just fantastic :).

i flew with them from nyc to australia, it was the worst flights i've ever had. i've flown ANA, qatar, emirates (first and economy), virgin (awful), etc. (like 15 different airlines on the same trips from nyc to Australia)

Would recommend flying Vietnam Airlines when you get the chance. I just returned from Vietnam, having done four flights with them (SYD - SGN, SGN - HAN, DND - SGN, SGN - SYD). Hard product good but not the best, but I thought soft product (especially the food!) was sensational.

Totally agree with everything what you said. The airport is really a mess. The leg room is too small. Entertainment system turned of before take of and landing just doesn’t make any sense. Thank you for these amazing vids. Love it !

Flying with these next year for the first time. Also my first time on the 787-9 Dream liner. So i am going for 3 weeks to Tokyo with my wife and Hong Kong on the way home. It goes Dublin to Abu Dhabi Ethiad Boeing 777. Abu Dhabi to Tokyo 787-9. Coming back Tokyo to Hong Kong on Hong Kong Airways Airbus A330-343. Then Hong Kong to Abu Dhabi on the 787-9. Finally back to Dublin on the 777. I have figured all Ethiads 777 begin with EY4 while there routes serviced by the 787-9 begin with Ey8. :D And thanks for the usful info Dan looks like i see the benefits of the new Terminal in 2020. :D

I flew on an Etihad Dreamliner a couple years ago and had more legroom than any other flight I've been on. I wonder if they have a few of them configured differently for extreme long haul flights

when I went on etihad in 2016, they gave us a menu with plenty of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. however I’m going again this year in december, so I’ll have to see if it’s the same. and yes, it was economy class that we went on :)

I had a very bad experience with Etihad. I missed my connecting flight to Milan just because they couldn't transfer my baggage from previous flight in time (i had 2 hours waiting time to the next flight). The airport staff didn't tell me the real reason until I confronted them. Then they booked another flight to milan (which was the day after) and the worst was they didn't give me the accomodation (hotel). I got mad at them and they provided me just a voucher for a capsule bed. They even didn't say sorry for their fault

Etihad gets a lot of praise for its business and first class service, but economy reviews of it are rare, and it's obviously well below the other Middle Eastern carriers' standard. And you were lucky to have had "only" that kind of problem. Skytrax, TripAdvisor and other forums are full of much worse horror stories about Etihad. I recently saw on the papers here the story of an important local politician who went on a trip to China on Etihad. They were a short distance from landing in Abu Dhabi (on a full widebody) when they announced that due to a "technical problem" they would be diverting to a secondary UAE airport in the middle of the desert. They were stuck inside the plane for SEVEN HOURS without food or air conditioning (in the desert!), and worse, with no explanation of what the actual problem was or any forecast of when it would be solved. The passengers nearly rioted. The plane finally took off for the short hop to Abu Dhabi, but when they arrived, of course most connections had been missed and it was real chaos to rebook them, with Etihad refusing to pay for accomodation and even refusing to rebook some flights because "the fare didn't allow rebookings" even though it had been their own fault. Definitely not an airline to be booked on when things go wrong.

I once flew on an etihad A330. Same issues really, little leg room, small variety on the entertainment system. However I didn’t find the airport in Abu Dhabi to be that bad, maybe that’s because it wasn’t baking hot when I was there and the toilets weren’t broken.

I'm a little shocked at your service on the first flight. For an Etihad Y class flight, for a 3.5-hour flight, no menu is a bit of shocker as well as their disapproval of filming. I filmed my KZfaq videos going in and out of Abu Dhabi and no crew member said anything to me. Also, how did ETD's 787 have comparatively less legroom? They have the same seat pitch as EK' A380. Did the seat protrude out more? Looking forward to more Daniel. Cheers!

Thanks Daniel for another informative review. Really liked the in cruise wing shot on the 787. Beautiful wing design. Just recently did some flights on Delta, traveling in the Delta Comfort area. I experienced the same UAE photos BS when taking photos of them fixing my seat which was broken. You were on Lebanoni soil and also in Lebanoni soveirgnty, so you are not in the wrong. I was on Emirati soil but was technically in Indian soveirgnty

Great video. I agree on a lot of things you said, and unfortunately as I am a long time resident of Abu Dhabi, I am kinda stuck with them. My family are enrolled as frequent flyers but besides the very rare A380 business class service, Etihad is definitely NOT one of the top in its class. We have encountered numerous issues with their service (only offering one choice of a main course instead of the usual 3, lack of blankets for the whole plane, major gate confusion resulting in a missed flight with a lack of apology, occasional rude staff and the list goes on) and we sometimes wish we were on, say, Emirates or Qatar but we can't due to their locational inconvenience. I have been on numerous AUH-BEY-AUH flights, and only recently (past 2 years), not a single one was perfect, both on their 787's and A320's. By the way, the A320 you went on has an older cabin. The newer one has seats more similar (not identical) to the 787, and a large touchscreen TV (no remote!) but apparently the same IFE.

Would love to see Lufthansa 441 from IAH (Houston, TX USA) to Frankfurt, or 441 opposite way. I happen to live in both the landing and take off paths. I've seen Lufthansa, Qatar & Emirates. Lufthansa is the A380, both Qatar and Emirates are 777. However, Emirates used to fly the A380 here. Hope to fly on both jets, one day!

Oh I had very plesent experiences with Abu Dhabi Airport, but that was maybe due to the fact that I was flying in one of their premium cabins an the departure time was like 2.00 am to Zurich. I also think that Muscat is worse, but as you experienced it Dubai and Doha are far better airports. I really enjoyed your economy week and I hope to see more videos in this format. Next time you could try Oman Air, because I noticed that their fares somtimes are much cheeper than the ME3s.

Really enjoyed your video and entirely agree with you. I avoid the B787 because of the seating configuration on almost all airlines; terrible legroom, narrow, and firm. I am 6'5" and ideally am better suited to premium economy, just for the legroom, but I also like to travel on a budget, which isn't always possible. One of the best flights I have ever had into the middle east was Gulf Air LHR-BAH on their A330-2, otherwise I tend to stick with KLM. How tall are you btw?

On Qatar’s 35 minute Dubai to Doha route they still had the IFE on which was better then that on the B787 May I add and they served a or pastry with a drink. It seems Etihad market their product as premium but it’s really not.

Interesting comment at the end. I fly to Singapore tomorrow - with Finnair. My first business class flight and looking forward to it immensely. The 3 middle eastern carriers, as well as BA and Singapore, were in the frame but went for Finnair as they are flying the A350 and are reasonably priced. I shall raise a glass of the Finnair 'Blue Sky' to you!

Maybe it was because it was in Lebanon, which has always been a sensitive place and is even more so now with the Syrian mess just next door. Or maybe it's an Abu Dhabi regulation - laws can differ considerably between the seven UAE, but I've never seen such a restriction in Dubai or on Emirates, which are full of complete video reviews out there.

It was just the flight attendant who wanted to act important. In the UAE it is forbidden to take photos inside and of an airport but inside the plane you're cool :)

Great work again Dan, this video to me shows that Etihad isn't as good as what Emirates is in my opinion. Overall it was a great video, well recorded and put together. Look forward to watching the conclusion video, my pick is that you'll choose Qatar Airways overall. Liked!

I flew Etihad for the first time this summer and had high hopes of the 5 star airline: I flew BRU - AUH - ICN & ICN - AUH - FCO. On all 4 flight: no boarding music, no menus (off to a bad start already). No snacks served on the BRU - AUH & AUH - FCO flights (both more than 6h flight time). All reserved seats on the return trip were given away without even telling us... these seats were reserved 10 months in advance and there were 0 aircraft changes... The transfer desk agent in AUH airport tried to shake it off by telling different excuses and after 10 minutes of complaining he finally was willing to give us back our reserved seats once I told him I work at BRU airport. Cabin crew were very professional and friendly though. Overall a disappointing, inconsistent experience with Etihad. I'd choose Turkish/Swiss over Etihad without a doubt.

I was not impressed with Abu Dhabi Airport either. I had to walk quite a distance to find a clean toilet with dry floors.

Unfortunately due to their financial troubles, Etihad has gone down in quality. I am starting to avoid it wherever possible.

Etihad bankrupted Air Berlin and Darwin Airline, with Alitalia soon to follow. Air Serbia had better be careful, though they have backing from the Serbian government. And it seems the parent airline is having enough problems of its own.
