Hey, everybody. How's it going Today, we're gonna be going over and showing you how to install the CURT trailer wiring harness here on our 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC. So this trailer wiring harness here is gonna be one of the required things we need to tow a trailer with our GLC. In addition to this, you're gonna need a trailer hitch and a ball mount/hitch ball, which we offer here at etrailer. So simply put, a trailer wiring harness is gonna transfer the signals from the vehicle to our trailer, so we can let other motorists out on the road know what signals we're gonna be making. Now, this is a legal requirement in pretty much every state, and it's also gonna be great for safety.
A lot of times, your larger camping trailers actually block the taillights on the vehicle here. So we still need to let other motorists behind us know where we're gonna be going. So this kit here provides us with the most basic type of trailer connector, which is a four-way or a four-pole flat. Now, chances are pretty much every trailer within the towing capacity of this vehicle is gonna have that, so you shouldn't need to worry about compatibility between the trailer plug and the vehicle plug. Now, when we need to use our trailer connector, it's very easy.
It's actually stored inside the vehicle, which I prefer on vehicles that aren't towing every day 'cause it's gonna keep it nice and protected, so you don't have any trailer lighting issues. But then, when we are ready to use it, it's very simple. Just go ahead and open up the hatch here. You can see we have our trailer plug, and then we're just gonna dangle it out the hatch. Now, a lot of people are worried about this 'cause they're worried about the wire being pinched, but our two weather seals on both the hatch and the trunk inside here, they're gonna ensure that we don't damage that wire.
Now, I would like to point out, just make sure you're away from that latching mechanism. As we said, we'll just go ahead and close it back down. And now, we can have our trailer connector right here for when we need to use it. So in regards to installation, for starters, our kit is gonna have everything we need. We're gonna get a tester to find the correct taillight circuits, although we will tell you what those are.
We're also gonna get all of our miscellaneous wire connectors we're gonna need. There are a couple tools you may not have that you will need, and that's gonna be a set of wire crimpers and strippers. So you will need to pick that up if you guys don't already have that. But aside from that, it's pretty straightforward. Unfortunately, we do have to splice into a couple wires on the vehicle, but we're not actually completely severing those connections. So you guys really shouldn't have any issues with warranty or anything like that. But with that being said, we'll go ahead and walk you through this entire process step by step. Now, give yourself around three, maybe even up to four hours, depending on your experience level. So first step of our installation, we need to open up the hatch on our vehicle. We're actually gonna be removing this threshold panel here. So these are usually held in place with just some push fasteners. Therefore, we can either take a trim panel tool or our fingers and just get underneath the panel and begin pulling up. So we've got that panel pulled off, and it looks like two of our factory fasteners stayed on the panel, which was really what we wanted. But there are several other ones, it looks like four in total, that stayed attached to the body of the vehicle. And we can see those here. Unfortunately, it looks like the little caps of the tabs broke off. So unfortunately, this is kinda just something that happens when you do this. I did these a couple of times, and I almost always break at least one or two of these. So it just kinda is what it is. I think we're gonna go ahead and try to replace these at the very end. If you guys break any of these, a lot of your auto parts stores may not have these exact same ones, but they'll probably have one similar that you can use to remove or you can use to replace them rather. So we'll go ahead and get the rest of these out now. You can see there, even now, they're wanting to just break with my trim panel tool here. So now that we have our threshold panel removed, now, we need to do this on both sides. But we're gonna come in here and basically, there's gonna be a little cargo hook sort of back here. So there's gonna be a cover over this cargo hook that we'll remove with a pry panel tool. And behind this cover, we're gonna have a Torx bolt, which is holding t
