Speaker 2: Today on our 2019 Honda Odyssey, we're gonna be taking a look at, I'm going to show you how to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 proportional trailer brake controller, part number 90195. This is what our brake controller looks like when it's installed. What it's going to do for us, that's going to allow us to use our brakes on our trailer as we're towing it. It's going to give us a few different settings. We're going to have a menu button here. It's going to give us an option for display.
Change the brightness, the color, or the contrast. Brightness is going to have three settings on it. You got low, normal, and high. We're also going to have brake type options. This is going to give us an option for electric or hydraulic brakes.
We're also going to have a help. Going to give us language, troubleshooting, several different colors that we can change to.This button down here is going to be our override button. What that means is before traveling down the road pulling the trailer, and the trailer starts to sway, kind of gets out of line a little bit, you can actually pull this, and you can apply the brakes on the trailer without applying the brakes in the vehicle. How this brake controller works, it's gonna be a proportional brake controller, which means when you apply the brake in the vehicle, it's going to apply the same amount of braking force to the trailer brakes, with the exception of the override button. This button here is the override button.
What that's gonna do, it's gonna apply the brakes on the trailer if the trailer starts swerving or swaying back and forth without you having to press the brake in the vehicle itself. You have a power setting, a max output of how much braking force or how quickly you want those brakes to be applied to the trailers. You can go as high as 14 and can go as low as zero, so you'll set that depending on the way you like it. Normally, you're going to set it about halfway. Just make sure you follow your instructions. You're going to set it about halfway inbetween maybe driving a parking lot, hit your brakes.
What you don't want is you don't want your trailer brakes to lock up, and this is how you would adjust that. It's going to adjust how quickly those brakes are applied. Now hooked up to our trailer, we're going to have what's called a boost setting. You're going to have three positions. You're going to have one, two, and three, boosts one, two, and three, and that's going to depend on your trailer size. If boost is set at zero your braking power is going to increase as you're slowing down. If your boost is set at level one, you're going to have about 13 percent braking power applied on your trailer brakes as you slow down, so it's going to be applying that 13 percent more as soon as you apply the brakes in the vehicle. When you set it at two and three, that's going to be for your bigger trailers. It's going to jump that percentage up to like 25 percent. So it's going to apply those brakes a little bit quicker, it's going to put a little bit more braking force on them because we want our trailer to stop itself. We don't want our vehicle that's telling it to stop the vehicle and the trailer both. Once you hook up your trailer, this top button here, you're going to push it, and it's going to set your boost of one, two, or three. Now that we've gone over some of the features of our brake controller, let's show you how to get it installed. First thing we need to do is in the back of our vehicle, if we already have a four-pole plug, it's going to mount right inside this panel here, and it's going to rest inside the vehicle. If you don't have it, again, you will need to pick one up to get the ETBC7 installed. What we're gonna do is we're gonna take off this threshold panel, or this sill panel here. On the inside here, we're going to have two tie down loops. Take a pair of Channellocks, paper towel, or rag. Put it over the top Move it, we'll do the same thing for the other side. Then we're just going to pull up on our panel. Take that, and then we'll set that aside. You're going to have another tie down right here. Go ahead and remove that. This is on the driver's side. We're gonna take our panel, and we're going to pull it out. What we need to find is a rubber grommet to get our four-pole plug through into the outside, and they have recently moved them right over here. Might be kind of hard to see, but it's right back in his pocket back here. Pull back some of this foam, and you have a rubber grommet like that. Goes right back in here. I'm having a little bit of trouble getting my four-pole
