Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be checking out the line of Viair onboard air compressor systems. Onboard air compressor systems are one of those deals where, you know, they're not for everybody but if this is something you think you're gonna use it could really become a useful tool and you can use these to do a lot of different things. You know, I know they're popular, somewhat popular in the off road world, you know, when you deflate your tires and have onboard air to air 'em back up. Just, you know, regular people out there just airing up their own tires, maybe pull a trailer around a lot. You know, you can adjust your air pressure that way.
A lot of people use train horns or air horns rather, this will run that. If you have airbags, you know, you can inflate those. And so a lot of different things, you know, pretty much whatever you need to do that requires air pressure, a setup from Viair is gonna be able to get that done. With that said, these Viair kits are really nice actually. I've done several onboard air compressor kits and this is probably the highest quality that I've seen so far in terms of how well made they are and things of that nature.
And with that in mind, there's gonna be several different kits available to kind of suit your particular needs. So we'll kind of talk about that a little bit but just keep that in mind. You know, if you're trying to do, you know, just have some air, right You don't really need to get too crazy, air a big off road tires or something, smaller kit might suit your needs a little bit better. On the other hand, if you're trying to, you know, air up big Jeep tires or real heavy trailer tires, something like that, a larger kit would probably be more ideal. Just to give you a reference, the kit that we have installed on our truck today is the Ultra Duty 200 psi kit, has a two and a half gallon tank.
And so this is one of the more heavy duty kits available but just to kind of check it out, why don't we just run a test with our setup that we have on our truck and see how it does. So here's a good situation that never seems to fail. You get a flat tire, get the spare down just to realize that the spare is flat too. So I'm gonna hook up our gauge to it here. Lock that down on there.
And looks like we only got about 20 psi in the tire. Spare on this truck supposed to be 80. I got our compressor tank filled all the way to 200 psi. So we'll see how long this takes to pump this up here and if the compressor (compressor humming) there goes the compressor kicks on. (compressor humming) So I'm assuming it'll take a little bit. Just, I mean that's a lot of pressure that this tire's gotta take. (compressor humming) It seems to be doing okay, you know, so this is a good example of how it can get you out of a pinch if something like this were to happen to you. There we are able to get it to 80 psi. I'm not gonna lie, from that I'd say about 20 to 50 psi, it did that on the first swing. You know, it ripped through that like it wasn't nothing really. From there, you know, about after that 50 psi mark, at least in our tire, you'd get five, seven psi out of it. You know, you'd have to wait a minute for the compressor, get another five pounds there, wait a few minutes. So it really started to slow down at that higher range, which is expected. I mean 80 psi and a tire this large, this one is a 275/7018. Don't what that comes out to, but a big truck tire and we're able to get it, you know, get 80 pounds air in the thing and it would go more too if we wanted I'm sure but pretty impressive for a little onboard air compressor kit. Here's just an example of how a kit can look installed on your vehicle. On the truck, it was a little bit tougher to get everything piled up in here underneath of it, just kind of the nature of it, but it is doable. I think it turned out really well. One of the things that is pretty nice is they give you all the stuff that you're gonna need for the most part and that's gonna hold true with all the kits all of your fittings and lines and things like that. You know, you might, depending on, every setup's gonna be a little bit different. You might need some, you know, extra wiring and just some little ins and outs but it's pretty much a complete package for the most part in just about every scenario. With that said too, you know, on our vehicle our tire and stuff will go back, spare tire will go back up here. Just wanted to be able to actually see what we had going
