Hi, I'm Shane with etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at, I'm going to walk you through the installation on the CURT Class 2 Trailer Hitch Receiver on your 2011 Chrysler Town & Country. This hitch is going to work great. Maybe you want to move some items out form inside the vehicle, put them on a cargo carrier to make more room for your passengers. Maybe you're a family that likes to go bike riding. This hitch could be more than capable of hauling a bike rack, plus up to four mountain bikes. Now, without any of those items on, you'll notice that our receiver tube is completely hidden behind our bumper fascia.
This hitch is going to maintain a nice clean look. It's going to be a Class 2 Hitch, inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter receiver tube opening. We have a reinforced collar. It'll give us a little extra stability there. Hitch pin hole's is going to be half inch in diameter.
We're going to take a standard half-inch pin. Hitch pin and clip does not come with this hitch. However, it can be found here at etrailer.com. We're going to have rolled steel style safety chain loops. See, we have very large openings that will accommodate different sized safety chain hooks.
When you combine the powder-coat finish with the steel construction on this hitch, the hitch is not only going to last, but it's going to look good for a really long time. Now let's give you a few measurements to help you in deciding on any of your hitch mount accessories you need such as a bike rack or cargo carrier. From the center of your hitch pin hole to the outermost part of your bumper, it's going to be about five inches. The number's important for any of those hitch mount accessories that may fold up against your vehicle. From the ground to the top innermost part of your receiver tube, it's going to be about 11 1/2 inches. That's number important for any of your hitch mount accessories that may require a little bit ground clearance. Now as far as our weight capacities go, we're going to have a 350-pound max ton weight, which is a downward pressure on the inside of the receiver tube.
If you have a cargo carrier on there and you have some items loaded on it, you want to make sure you're not exceeding that downward pressure. If you're pulling a small trailer, you're going to have a 3,500-pound max trailer load, which is how much the hitch can pull. That's going to be the trailer plus the load included. I always recommend checking the owner's manual of the vehicle to make sure the vehicle can withstand the amount of weight. You're going to pick the lowest number between the vehicle and the hitch. Now CURT does require the use of stabilization straps for all non-wheeled loads. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed. To make it easier, we're going to lower our exhaust. We're going to take a 13-millimeter socket. We're going to have an exhaust hanger right back here, and we're going to have one right on the front side of the axle. We're just going to remove the bolts, let our exhaust sit down on top of our axle to give us said extra room. Then you're going to need a 15-millimeter socket and 18-millimeter socket. For our passenger's side, we're going to be taking out the two most rear bolts. We're going to have the 15 millimeter here on the end. Then we'll have this 18 millimeter here. You want to make sure you do not remove that one. Go ahead and start with this one.Once you get the two out on the passenger side, we're going to have three of them on the driver's side, the small one on the back and then these two here. You can see it has a little bit of spray on there. This vehicle looks like it may live on a gravel road or travel on a gravel road quite a bit. I would suggest spraying some kind of cleaner or lubricant up inside of there because you can see there's holes in the frame rail. The top of those threads are open to the elements, so stuff can get stuck on there. Then you want to try not to break off one of these off up inside of the hole because then you have to drill it out and then make new threads. Just a precautionary, go ahead and spray some stuff inside; see if you can get some of those threads cleaned off.Now with an extra set of hands, we'll raise our hitch into place. We're going to install one bolt on each side. This'll help hold our hitch in place while we install our remaining hardware. Once you have all your hardware installed, you want to tighten all your hardware and then torque it to the specifications in the instructions. Once you've torqued all of your hardware to specification instructions, go ahead and raise your exhaust
