Weird how it feels like a breath of fresh air to see a simple build breakdown these days. This is more than enough for anyone to have fun, and acheivavable for most. I'm currently building my 2nd s13 chassis with the aim of reliable low HP & more seat time at the moment and this was a well timed reminder to keep it simple!

Thank you and I completely agree with you. This car is a dream to drive and by only fixing what breaks allows the car to find a mechanical sweet spot that’s often hard to find when you change everything. Cheers

Love the simple style and that you modded the rear to run it lower. Would enjoy seeing how you raised the subframe to do this.
@Engineeredtoslide
@Engineeredtoslide 2 жыл бұрын
I did this many years ago outside with very little knowledge on fabrication but I made it work after buying a welder and stripping the subframe then jacking it up in the car and cutting out where it fouled. I think it’s only gained a raise of 50mm but it helps the axles and the suspension work better. Keep in mind that there were no drop knuckles at that stage. Cheers

As with all you builds, I love this one too! There's so much inspiration to take from these, specially both the S13's for my part, as I've just started to dig in to my S13 to make it more . Mine is a CA18DET, with the stock gearbox in it, but I also want to get the shifter closer to me. Any tips to do so? Not thinking a full blown relocation setup as you've done in yours though, as I'm actually not sure if that would be road legal where I live.
@Engineeredtoslide
@Engineeredtoslide 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, and love that you have an S13 as they are so iconic. You could always make up what’s known as a dogleg shifter, this won’t be something you could just screw on as it will try and rotate as you shift. If you could get another stock shifter or a short shifter to modify you could bend up some 10mm solid rod and weld it on.

Lovely car Nigel I do the same thing with the subframes on time attack and Irish touring cars 👌🤙 My Nabour Chris Brady (ex Irish prodrift driver) has 2 180sx a grey one and a blue one 💙 and one drove down past my house as I was watching this 🤣 wish I bought one 10 years ago when they where cheap but rallying ate up all my spare cash 💸 Maybe soon il find one needing some tlc 💯

clean ride, quite impressive! I am very slowly trying to build a "reliable" s13 vert track toy so taking notes; Did you do anything to the rack n pinion? or does going full manual eliminate all those concerns? Also, with the subframe; did you use the s13 or a newer s14/15? And by raising it up you are getting full range of travel, but a lower'd stance/look right? That looks like a serious project! Do you actually run tires that strech'd/hella flush looking? that can't help improve grip or improve contact patch How does a small intercooler help with "mid-range" punch? And wouldn't the clutch fan further go against that theory?? I do like the idea of just welding the downpipe to the hotside, and I really liked that catch-can setup that uses your fender wells, very clean! What did you use for the stock parking brake/ebrake considering you are using the z32 calipers, and hydraulic drift/rear brake?
@Engineeredtoslide
@Engineeredtoslide 2 жыл бұрын
All the steering is factory PS rack, its shifted forward to reduce bind. I used the S13 subframe, yes thats right, I am getting full travel with flatter arms so less increase in toe and camber through the travel. Yes I have ran it with this stance since the beginning, it eats guards up but nothing thats too difficult to repair. A small intercooler increases compressed air velocity and response, so instead of filling a big cavity it only has to fill a smaller one, the downside is prolonged use increases heat but drift cars do a lot intermittent running. It runs stock ebrake and then a plumbed in hydro that connects to the rear brake line.

Such a classic car from my days of drifting back in 06-08. I was wondering since the s14 valve cover has been more rare and the s13.4 valve cover mod is like 400. Does your catch can setup in the back there reduce or resolve the crank case pressure / blow by on the s13 valve cover?
@Engineeredtoslide
@Engineeredtoslide 2 жыл бұрын
I have never had an issue with the blow by on this car and I think the large catch can volume helps this. The two fittings on the rocker cover give plenty of breathing room as they are a larger diameter than the stock items. Thanks
