I'm planning to open my shop soon and naturally I wondered which of the two platforms suits me best. I'll go with Etsy because after putting everything down and watching many videos like this one I decided it's best to start there and see where it takes me. So I completely agree with your conclusion. The main reason why I'm writing this comment is to thank you for looking at the whole VS thing in such a positive way. Most videos are like "why I ran away from Etsy" or "why I tried Shopify and moved back to Etsy", but you examined everything in a calm and constructive way and I really appreciate that.

Sounds good, Great info on the fees different from the amount of items your listing. I think I want to start with Etsy from hearing everything most of y’all say, I have a friend who like Shopify but she’s already pretty huge on the media so it makes sense

I am just starting a business with my parents at 36 years old and I honestly didn’t know whether I should start through Etsy or Shopify and watching your video was very informative… So thank you so much. As young as you are…you seem to know a lot and I definitely appreciate the information. Age doesn’t matter if you’re successful honestly. Keep doing you. It’s pretty admirable that you did all this at such a young age. I’m sure your family is very proud of you.

I have both Etsy and Shopify. I started off with Shopify when I should have started off with Etsy. I would recommend Etsy. With Shopify, you have to bring in traffic every single day and you have to run ads on Facebook which can be expensive. You also have to post every single day on Instagram just to bring in “ free traffic “. If you create a Pinterest, Tik Tok, etc you also have to post consistently on there just to get “ free traffic”. Shopify also started charging for email marketing if you send more than 5 emails. Don’t even get me started on Influencer marketing and how expensive that is. I’m glad I finally decided to focus on my Etsy shop. I stopped my Facebook Ads and now I’m doing ads on Etsy. I will just keep posting for my website and send emails.

Can you talk about taxes on Etsy? They don’t send 1099 for 17 year old like me
