The guys pick up from last week's episode on making decisions. They continue to provide more insight into keeping your desires from overriding excellence, effectiveness, and quality in your execution.
You can do things that are not right and not feel good doing so.
19:30 - Don't skip over doing the real work that will bring success to you. Cj emphasizes there are no shortcuts on the way to sustainable success.
34:47 - Are you engaging in activities that could tear down what you've built up? The more work you put into your craft, family, or self-development, the more costly consequences will be when mistakes are made.
58:01 - Find a healthy way to receive dopamine. There are healthy alternatives to receiving those feelings that aren't destructive to your body or mind.
Discussion Questions
1. What's your primary reason for making better decisions for your life?
2. Pray to overcome the strength of desires. Having a sinful nature is costly. Not addressing it and doing what it takes to make better life choices directly affect others connected to you.
There Are NO Valid Excuses As To Why ANYONE Should Be Living Their Life At Less Than 120%

Great topic. Impulsive and emotional decisions are rarely effective and/or beneficial to anyone but they seem like the rational decision when in the moment.

To speak to desirable…. I always tell my friends to think ahead when it comes to putting yourself in certain situations because because when it’s time to make a decision most people choose the decision that make them feel good and deal with whatever come later.

I still agree with CJ. Even with “effective” and “desirable” in the context it’s based perspective. Otherwise we’re still switching between bird eyes view vs in the moment which I think is the argument.

I’ve been trying to figure out what makes humans tick. After my studies, I don’t think there’s any such thing as a lazy person. We are all highly motivated; to make our brain feel good. We are all highly motivated to get dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin etc and highly motivated to avoid cortisol. The question then is, what do we do to make our brain feel good? I would go so far to say people like Elon Musk and a video game addict have the same energy and are getting similar rewards in their brain. They are just achieving it in different ways. The problem then isn’t a lack of motivation but the wrong reward systems aligned in the brain. When we are stressed, what does the brain want to do to feel better? An achieving person will turn their stress into work. An under achieving person will turn their stress into TV, video games, drugs, alcohol etc. One more example, I think fit people and overweight people have similar stress energies. One found happiness in food and the other found happiness in exercise. Both were just trying to deal with their stress/cortisol And it’s the repetition of certain thoughts and emotions that determine what the brain finds rewarding. Which is why ETs content is so powerful. At the core of it all he’s helping to realign the reward systems of our brains All of this has lead me to believe that the greatest determining factors of how someone will do in life is: What do they do for happiness? What do they do to get rid of stress?

That would be a good discussion. They did address it somewhat on here. Basically acting based on what you know is best creates a defense against unhelpful or wrong desires. Over time your focus can and usually will go towards the productive things you are doing. But temptation will still come. Jesus was tempted by the devil three times in the wilderness. Then before He was arrested He asked God to let Him forego the suffering and crucifixion. In both cases, Jesus drew from God's Word and His belief and knowledge that pleasing God was more important than pleasing Himself in the moment. His love for God led Him to deny Himself. But the love was fortified by recalling and reciting God's Word. The love was reinforced by laying it all out in front of God in fervent prayer and being willing to accept God's answer. As a Christian following God by communing with Him and choosing people and environments that feed our faith is the best way to change or conquer our desires. If you aren't a Christian the same concept applies: You have to have a purpose greater than self indulgence. Whether it's being an example for a loved one, making someone proud or creating a legacy for yourself, there has to be something you can look at and say, "This is worth me feeling bad to do what I don't feel like doing. This is worth me giving up what I want in the moment."

CJ is correct. I’m glad you all revisited this. I’m a chef, so pardon my fakin. However, the very little I know about neuroscience, CJ is absolutely correct. A good question for Mal would be based upon a previous real estate purchase when he was a rookie being lead by his emotions, that turned out to be a bad deal. In that moment did he think it was the best decision for him? I imagine so. Same question for ET when he went in on his Mother (going way back), I imagine he thought that was the best decision from his level of his consciousness. If not, why would either of them choose the behavior?

Alot was said here but what CJ said when talking to LaShaunda hit me (so sorry if I misspelled)... But in reference to her procedure, he said "the same thing you need to do to keep the weight off after the surgery is exactly what you need to do now. You're in the same spot you're going to be later, without the risk". Literally that jump or boost you think you're gonna get by jumping on some scheme or program will require the same energy to maintain it that it will to get you there, EXCEPT you'll be cheating yourself on the journey and sweat equity. That's the risk in most other situations. It just reminds me that excellence is a habit. Period.

I love y’all dearly, the only thing I disagree with is the thought that bariatric surgery is an “easy route”. Some people do take advantage and even after the surgery still don’t put in the work. Its a weight loss tool. We still have to be self disciplined to this new lifestyle and keep the weight off. Much love guys 💜

I think within the black community it is the food jungles. A few generations have been raised with a lot of fast food joints on the street corners and not really taught nutrition. I struggle with Coca-Cola as well despite trying to lose weight. I feel the same way about drinking it while knowing it is bad but I also fight it now because I understand the root of it.

Y’all giving people a lot of credit. They not even trying to make the best decision let alone making the one they think is best, they making the one that seems easiest. Least push back, most comfort. Not even best. People sacrifice the best decision for a good decision every day. But every good one isnt the best one. So even people making good decisions may never be at a high level of execution. Peak performers are always searching for the best decisions and interrogating how they can make what they chose the best it can be. But how people in your city is that population? Eh…. Muy poquito.

I am late here, obviously! But, these individuals are making what is the most DESIRABLE decision - even though they *know* it is not the best decision. They *know* in the moment I don’t have enough money and it is a bad decision - but they do it anyway because they desire and want the object of their affection.
