EU4 1.34 is actually really fun! I usually dislike playing tall but RIGA is not only the ULTIMATE PLAYING TALL nation but also the best trading nation... all whilst staying as one province! Much better than EU4 1.33, Lions of the North fixes EVERYTHING! You can even SELL INDULGENCES! You have to try playing as Riga with this new mission tree. Treat this like an EU4 Riga guide because it's AWESOME!

So the "Only have 6 provinces" thing actually says "in Europe", meaning that as Riga you could pull a Portugal and just have loads of trade cities all over the world! Or just go full colonial and make even more ridiculous fat stacks of cash.

That would be true if you could steer trade into the Baltics but thanks to EU IV's braindead trade mechanics it would be really hard for them to steer it all into a node that would be as profitable as Sevilla or English Channel

Riga gets 6 provinces in Europe, you could transfer old provinces to subjects (you can also make trade cities to hold one province per trade node if you're leader of a trade league). It would be a very vassal-heavy game, but that's what Influence ideas are for.

I played poland got a 6/6/6 from the Polish Lithuania event decided i will take the 6/6/6 and then conquer Lithuania, he dies at the 31 me not being able to react and alt f4 so then the pain became real :)

@TheSocialStreamers not relevant to Riga, but through a rare event chain, you CAN become Norse in-game. The requirements are: - Danish, Swedish, Norweigan, Icelandic or Norse as primary Culture - in Age of Discovery -Not had the country flag "had_norse_nostalgia" - is excommunicated OR has modifier "the_statue_in_restraint_of_appeals" - ruler has Scholar trait OR Sinner trait OR is at least 5/5/5 - ⁠Owns the province Bergslagen - ⁠Is independent It ⁠Takes 100 years to trigger (religious ideas and excommunication will have a multiplier of 0.5, reducing it to 50 or 25 if you have both.)

That's crazy rare, yeah, because it basically requires you to have a 5/5/5 ruler for 100 years. If you're going for it, though, it shouldn't be too hard to rush Religious Ideas, save scum for a 5/5/5 ruler, and then just everything you can to piss off the papal controller into excommunicating you.

8:17 You can probably go to the diplomatic page of the outliner button at the top left (The one where you can automate your diplomats) and find willing countries there like you would for vassalization, knowledge sharing, alliances, royal marriages, etc. Edit: At 5:40, they do check this. Hopefully, that interaction will be added there later by Paradox.* *This interaction is in the current diplo-screen.

I just started a Lübeck campaign in the new DLC and patch and I have to say, their new mission tree update is a lot of fun and seems to be in a similar vein to Riga here. Well worth a go if you enjoyed this one! Definitely going to have to give Riga a go now

Lübeck is a lot of fun in 1.34 - really well paced mission trees with good rewards (am currently working toward converting Lubeck (city) producing ~7.5 goods to a gold province through mission should be fun lol

Yeah Adal is a great nation to play as they have a nice color and their ideas are all military and trade. Take out Ethiopia right away so they don't grow and you get the local gold mines, then take the Gulf of Aden and Zanzibar nodes to collect in Zanzibar. After taking all the provinces in the Ivory Coast then Cape becomes an end node that can't be pulled out of where you can route all trade from Zanzibar, Coromandel, and Malacca making it the richest node in the world. Exploration, Aristocratic, Expansion, Trade, and Offensive were the ideas I had before I stopped that game as I had snowballed so much I got bored and started as Bengal.

hy leith if u add a admiral with high manuaver to you trade fleet it increases trade power vy a lor, u can also add a light ship flag ship that has trade route and manuver with these combinations u can steal everyones trade

Seems like a pretty fun campaign. One thing I wish you could do with it is increase the amount of provinces you could have a bit over time so you can just slowly take control and make trade companies out of an insane amount of land and through it get insane goods produced modifiers for vassals then taking vassal income modifiers to take the money for yourself. Seems like that could be a pretty easy way to get the 70%+ goods produced modifier you can get from Trade companies in a region. It's a pretty fun goal towards to stack goods produced through it, and using vassals probably supercharges it because they can still have it as a state for all provinces outside of the trade centre so any downsides of the strategy are less so. (I learnt it a while back from Florry's channel, or i think it may be second channel? It's a fun thing to try and get up there with little downside usually)

You forgot, you can do the mission of your vassals. Teuts as your vassal has a conquer missio tree for all of the east. Livonia has a mission tree for Colonial empire. Rest is simply pushing OPM Riga development over 1000 each.

I find weird they altered the privileges UI, before it was pretty clear you could add a whole lot more of privileges but now it looks like that Trade Company investment window where 80% of people don't know theres a cheeky scroll bar that shows an additional investment.

7:14 Teutonic order is too big to make a vassal unless they have lost Neumark etc to Brandenberg... or at least it used to be vassalisable before.. i think they gave them more development now than they used to have because when i was playing muscovy once i warred novgorod as early as possible, then livonian & teutonics before poland could and i got teutonics as a vassal so it used to be possible maybe back in 1.30 or around that time then i let them become prussia.. which makes for an amazingly powerful march

As long you use the "consolidated development" regularly on new conquered territory for your vassals, you capital should outgrow the development of your vassals. Rest is army strength, simply stick to forcemlimit.

You get -33% LD from subject's development through a modifier from the mission tree, and then if you go with Naval, Expansion, Exploration, and Religious (which all seem like good choices with Riga as the 5 province limit is for European provinces only and they fit well with what Riga needs), you get another -30% LD from subject's development in two policies (-63% overall, so only like 10 LD per 100 development instead of 25), and then Influence gives a flat -15 LD and a policy with Plutocratic gives another -10 LD. Then you get another -6 LD from diplo rep from Influence, another -50 because they're historical friends, another -20 once you get trust up to 100, and another -20 for max relations. In theory this means that you could have two vassals each with about 1200 development before you've reached 0 LD again, and if you make them both marches, you could get up to about 1500 each.

Suggestion for when you will play as Leithuania: Complete all missions first (till tech 12) and only then form Lithuanian-Polish Commonwealth. Stuff is so broken it's insanely fun...

You can join the empire at the very beginning without unpausing if you insult Austrian rival and run the privilage that increases all relation with the same religion by 25, it will give you 75 relations with Austria

If you join the empire, you loose a diplomat. 3 diplomats are far better than 2, only join the empire when you are ready for it. Alternative, Lübeck has mission, which let you join the empire.

But doesn't adding more estate privileges kill your absolutism completely? If you end your playthroughs by 1600 then you probably don't care, but otherwise it would be nigh impossible of getting rid of the estate influence later on, no?

It does, but there's a good number of modifiers to estate loyalty that makes it easier to revoke them (Aristocratic gives +10 nobility loyalty, Trade gives +10 burghers loyalty, Religious gives +10 clergy loyalty), and if you avoid giving out or revoke the +1 mana privilege that gives the -5 loyalty before going wild with the big influence privileges then loyalty actually isn't too difficult to get, and if you deliberately trigger the Court and Country disaster, obliterate everybody, and end the disaster with Absolutism at least 65, you get a permanent modifier of +20 max absolutism for the rest of the game (+10 if you have between 30 and 65) which offsets a fair amount of the absolutism loss from having the privileges. I did a game as France and had a few significant privileges and still had 100 max absolutism this way.

I still don't get why Gotland is independent in this new DLC/patch. I've searched on Wikipedia, but I found nothing: the island changed from Sweden, Denmark and the Teutonic order several times, and it was autonomous but never independent... If anyone knows anything about that, please explain it or send the references :) thx

Looks cool but not a fan of playing any countries in that region. Danish bordergore EVERY SINGLE GAME, the trade goods suck except for the amber from Konigsberg and Falun mine, you're almost always sandwiched between major powers, winters are brutal, annoying raided coast popups, and you're on the periphery of the HRE so you never feel "safe". At least stackwipes are back this patch. Edit: Forgot about Fur gaining value later on in the game. Still not a comfy experience like Western Europe or Italy.

But by the fact that everytime Paradox touches a nation for the past DLCs, they feel obligated to somehow make that nation the most OP in the world for no reason. Was the case with Austria, Siam, bunch of african nations and now all of Scandinavia. To the point of breaking any sort of balance. One example being Sweden and the province of Dalaskogen. Between the new monument (sic), the mission rewards and a good build up, it's very possible to get like 30-40 ducats from PRODUCTION alone with this very province. ... WTF? 3-4 ducats..? Yeah, why not. It was like a gold mine income like. But it did not raise as much money for Sweden as the entirety of Italy for God sake. It's broken. It's all broken and OP to the point of not being playable in multiplayer for obvious reason.

Another dlc with an incredibly overpowered set of updated nations, broken missions, no new provinces, and a incredibly small scope and only one new starting nation. I can’t wait for the next few months of paradox hastily trying to fix all their mistakes with this one!

EU4 is pretty difficult and in-depth. My best suggestion is to start as a bigger nation (bigger nations won't result in you getting annexed if you accidentally screw up something) and focus on one thing. For example, Portugal is one of the 'tutorial nations' because you can more-or-less ally Castile/Spain for the entire game and be very safe while you focus on colonizing the known universe. Once you get a handle on colonizing, you could try playing Castile where your attention is more split between European and Colonial affairs.
