France in this update is nuts. By the 1460’s you can own all of the lowlands and the France region basically free of AE because of how much free land you grt

Some Tips not shown in the video 1: Keep an eye on your Appanages' heirs. You can go into the diplomacy screen (NOT THE VASSAL screen) and use "Appoint Royal Prince" to make their heir yours. Note: ONLY THEIR HEIR. So if you see they have like a 6/6/6 Heir or some shit, snipe that bitch. They will get some liberty desire from it, but you can get way ahead in tech if you find one early. The Appanages seem to the get the "A Talented Daughter", "Lux Stella" and "Child of the Reeds" Events reasonably often, so check regularly even if you already have an Heir. France does get decent enough early game rulers, certainly better than England (lmao), Castille, or Austria but you can really outclass them if you get great rulers. 2: Don't bother with Colonizing. Seriously, wait for Castille and Portugal or a weakened England to do it. Meanwhile, they are stuck with exploration/expansion ideas, you can take a bunch of mil ideas and push their shit in on the continent. Don't let their huge numbers scare you, most of their troops will be stuck in the colonies or in the ocean like Spain IRL. If you take mil ideas, you'll have better troops than them anyway. Colonial land is mega cheap to take in peace deals, so you can pretty easily take half of Mexico in a single peace deal if you also have Diplo ideas for the reduced warscore cost. 3: You will lose the CB on Milan to PU them if they lose the Ambrosian Republic government type OR they change their ruler. So you might not have the full 25 years that the tool tip tells you to take it. 4: If Burgundy rivals you at the beginning of the game, you can declare a war on them and make them end the rivalry then improve relations with them until they flip friendly. Because the AI STILL doesn't know how to account for a vassal's overlord's strength, sometimes Burgundy will attack one of your Appanages and you can call all of your allies in, butt fuck them, and then make them end their rivalry. If you don't take anything else, you should be able to make them have high enough relations with you so they'll accept a royal marriage with you. They'll probably want to ally with you reasonably soon afterwards and you'll be on your way. One of your missions also immediately triggers the "Death of the Duchess of Burgundy" Event (the "I could kiss that horse!" event) so you don't even have to deal with the imperial incident, just tell Austria to fuck itself. 5: You get a permanent CB to take land from the HRE if you choose to attempt to dismantle it, as well as some nice bonuses. Sometimes, if Austria is really weak, you can become the HRE Emperor even if you choose to try and dismantle it lol. 6: You have a scripted event to get the Ottomans as an ally sometime during the Age of Reformation. Take it and don't look back especially if you fight the Pope. You can also get the Pope as a special vassal that you can feed Italian land too, but he ends up becoming mega-disloyal since for whatever reason, the missions and the vassal type don't give him any disloyalty reduction and as you might imagine, vassal called "The Kingdom of God" will become disloyal very quickly.

Before getting the PU over Provence in my most recent run I attacked Brittany and gave Provence most of the land there as they usually are interested in that land(plus less AE for you), this helps fulfill their mission that gives them cores on all of Naples. Good way to get all of Naples practically for FREE

I found keeping at least 1 appanage into the 16th century is helpful as you can appoint crown prince from their heir, I once got a chad 5/5/5 heir from my appanage

For your Info, the "Strong Duchies" Estate privilege does not exist right now, once you get rid of French variant you don't get it. But it will be fixed in the 1.35.4 update, it was mentioned in the dev note.

the likelihood of both castile and burgundy not rivalling you is very, very low. out of 50 restarts, these golden conditions only appeared *twice* for me.

Do note that the "movement of centralization" mission (for which you need your subjects to like you and some other stuff) lets you abandon the 1st government reform and thus allows you to become an empire and have more gov cap

Good guide, I typically don't take Calais and get other stuff like money or reps. Burgundy normally will goto war with England for the province, and they you'll get it later when you get the BI. But there are multiple ways to play it out.

I did a couple attempts with save scums. This was 1485-1491 During the war with England reclaiming Wales and Northumbria cores, and a few English provinces I got the Burgundian Succession. At this point I did everything exactly as in the video except taking the free Provence cores in Naples, getting different land in North Africa, less personal French land in England (at this point I only had the OPMs and 2 provinces connecting them), and the later Succession. Instead of instantly inheriting via mission I decided to use them for bait on Austria to curb their power even more since in my game they did not get a union on Hungary, only Bohemia. Possibly due to the Transfer Subject age power having been taken I was able to steal Bohemia from Austria for only 50 AE and 77% war score. Even having just peaced out England only a couple years prior the potential coalition was still only England by themselves. Excellent guide showcasing many different mechanics, even the strategy for taking out Austria I took from another of your videos on Castile I think, ally all of their allies and anyone else so even if they dont join me they at least wont join Austria in the Burgundian Succession and then its a free win.

Very nice guide. France is a real power house and since this update one of the best nations even for new players. Really pure fun to play France. You can even do the big blue blob achievement fairly easy nowadays.

This guide is awesome. Please rethink guide #2 for this country, because after reformacy and absolutism there are a lot of new mechanics that will make #2 guide much more hawky. Like musketeers for example. You didn't pay attention also to colonizing either. I fill hungry for more!!! 😊

Looking at the game files, the fact that Provence and Lorraine will be separate subjects seems to actually be a bug. First it makes france form a union with provence, and then it checks if lorraine is asubject of provence and if so inherits them under provence. The issue of course is since france already formed the union with lorraine, it will no longer be a junior partner of provence Also the factor for AI provence to choose the union is 10 while the factor for it to deny it is 0, so it should never happen

Tbh, it's easier to just take the Irish provinces directly, especially if you're trying to get Big Blue Blob. They're low development, you have more admin points at this point, and you can raise autonomy to prevent rebels.

Please remember, you need trust to get burgundy (dont repeat my mistakes), and later in age of revolutions you get new op missions with which you can conquer the europe even if your nation is not that large

How are you able to annex a subject here (21:25)? You don't have the 50% crown land that is necessary to annex an appanage

A quick little note, in the 1.36 patch, Burgundy starts by Rivaling you much more frequently, but they let go of the Rivalry a couple days into the game. Try playing it out, because it is very rare to get the scenario where neither Burgundy nor Castile Rivals you.

Just something of cheese that should be noted. If the surrender of Maine happens you can leave the event open then get a diplomat free and declare war on England for one of your other cores. Then you can click the option in the event popup for England to give back Maine and you'll now be at war with England and get Maine back for free leaving you war score to either take more land or money

Will you make a guide for a colonial Great Britain? Angevin is mainstream now with pretty much every major channel having either a dedicated guide or series for it. Sure, there's a very good reason for it as it is new and has more flavor, but its kinda sad that people are sitting on a gem that is updated GB play. I'm doing an isolationist GB campaign right now (French holdings are abandoned, no land conquest in Europe except islands for the missions until Imperialism CB) and boy you guys are missing out. 10/10, top tier Asia bullying

In my opinion the mission tree was more powerful before. Now it has a lot more flawor and some divergent choices but none of the bonuses compare to the pu on Spain: often it also included Portugal and 3/4 colonies.

Provence gets reconquest cores against Naples through its missions so it's better to PU them and retake their land. Also, the Milan PU CB only lasts 4 years because they become a republic and their guy is replaced.

I like to go aristocratic for first idea group. Diplo is a good option but not needed if you dismantle HRE

NGL, that Duchess of Burgundy event in the mission tree sucks for literally everyone else in the world. Especially if you’re playing as Burgundy. France is the new ottomans. You could eat Portugals colonies when you fight England if you leave them allied.

If you take the lowlands, you have to move your capitol, right? I always find that to be so annoying... But I guess it'll move your trade node, and that needs to happen anyway.

Trying this start, Burgundy has been rivaling me a lot at the start of the game. If they aren't rivaled on November 11, 1444, they are rivaled on November 12, 1444. Perhaps some changes have been made since this guide was released.

And Burgundy chooses Empire or Independance. They never choose me. How is it possible ? What can I do ? Why it happens to me in every save ?

Trade co in north morrocco is a good idea. Make fez into a state is better for huge goods prpduced from the surrounding trade co. Also tafilalt should be a state. Yiur advice was to put all of safi trade node into a trade company. Not a good idea.

Unless they changed it the milanese succesuon event CB wont last 25 years. It is only valid for as long as milans elcected ruler is active, so you have 5 to maybe 10 years max

If you release the new appenage, you get an event increasing your diplo relations slots by one.

Scotland I revoke the guarantee day one. Then later release them as a vassal for reconquest and feed them ireland as the irish land is useless. No pale vassal and revoke guarantee means 2 less diplo slots.

I have now restarted the game 40 times and have not gotten the start you’ve gotten. And when I did, Milan succession happened in the first England war AND Portugal did NOT join the war with France.

How did your nobility influence decrease for you to be able to take Noble Integration Policy? My noble influence at the same timeframe is still really high, preventing me from taking this without them going to 100%.

Burgundy did not start off rivaled to me. I allied Castille, then went to war with England after asking Castille for military access so I could go siege down Portugal. After the war, Burgundy rivals me because Castille is their rival. If I don't ally Castille, I can't go siege down portugal for warscore because Portugal and Engalnd have over 50 ships combined. What am I missing?
