In this video titled EU4 Releasables - You Should NEVER PLAY In THIS REGION In EU4 I do a playthrough as Latgalia after releasing it from The Livonian Order and I try to become a great power in Europa Universalis 4 1.37 Winds of Change. This is the series titled Releasables where I attempt to play every releasable nation in EU4 or Europa Universalis 4. In this video I play as the nation of Latgalia in EU4. Shewa is interesting because it was the base of the modern Solomonic dynasty that overthrew the Zagwe dynasty, and claimed descent from the Axumite kings, which in turn traced their genealogy to Solomon from the Bible, but it also had Muslim rulers for a time before the EU IV start date. Either embracing islam and allying with the Ottomans or Timurids, or proving yourself to be the true Ethiopia could be fun.

As Shewa, help create the army of Prester Jean. Help the Knights take the Holy Land so they can form Jerusalem. Flipping the Knights to Coptic is a huge bonus. Making sure the Coptic Holy sites are Coptic controlled is also a bonus.

Since you're playing in the Ethiopia region a "Gondor (Gondar) calls for aid" strategy utilizing vassals to help meet your goals might be a neat theme.

As someone who plays Livonian Order quite frequently, it is fun. By rivaling Teutons, you avoid getting dragged into their war with PLC. While they do ally Denmark usually, if you manage to get Poland (and Lithuania is Poland rejects the PU) that problem solves itself. Once you get the Teutons, Poland will likely break the alliance, but I usually find a deterrent in Bohemia or Austria. But the best part is if you go colonial. By no CBing an Irish minor, you can use that to deny GB some Irish provinces, and can punch far above your weight. One time I managed to form a large colonial empire as Livonia with colonies in Canada, Eastern US, West Africa, South Africa, Cascadia, Indonesia, Australia, and California.

As Shewa you should grow your nation to the point that you're on the great powers list with another great power below you. After Colonialism is embraced too so that the videos don't stretch too long

16:35 on the newest patch HRE OPMs love getting catholic defender of the faith. I assume that's what happened.

Let me tell you, I am very glad that this is how it works, I was terrified that essentially what would happen is France or Castillo would take defender of the faith and mean that playing as any other religion would mean constantly fighting Wars against major powers in Europe. Instead it means that every single time I fight a colonial Nation as the inca, Hamburg or Frankfurt get involved lol.

Fighting in the beginn against the Livonian Order. I once played Riga. Livonian Order got the Kalmar Union, Teutonics and Poland-Lithuania as allies while having Muscovy guaranteeing them.

Maximum tolerance is different from acutal tolerance, because you have a max tolerance for heretics and heatens and that value is the maximum tolerance you can have, unless you increase it by the maximum tolerance modifier.

@16:44 Frankfurt was probably Defender of the Faith. I’ve noticed in this patch that a lot of small HRE minors like claiming DotF and basically wrestle with each other for it

It's a pity we don't have custom goals for releasables because for Shewa you could conquer Yemen and then Jerusalem to bring Salomon gifts as the queen of Shewa.

3:20 maximum tolerance of heretics is a different modifier. There is a tolerance cap and it just increases that (doesn't actually improve tolerance in itself)

I think frankfurt got involved with the muscovite lithuanian war because of frankfurt becomeing the defender of faith. Ive seen some weird small german tags become defender of the faith in the newest patch.

Weird theory, but if you form the Netherlands which removes all your provinces from the HRE, is it possible to conquer the HRE leaving one province for the HRE or causing the empire to get destroyed?

As Shewa, form Aksum and become the Holy Roman Emperor. However, you must be a Coptic emperor, as Shewa is a majority Coptic region in Ethiopia now.

15:59 Never in my 2869 (nice) hours of EU4 have I EVER seen a Muscovy-Poland alliance (an Ottoman-Muscovy alliance sure, but never this)! That is some next level of bad luck right there! Edit: 17:43. BRUH, if lady luck was a person. She would be the arch nemesis of Hawk.

Pretty sure Frankfurt became Defender of the faith, I've noticed this a lot in the current patch, basically any time I dropped below 100 prestige a Catholic minor in the HRE would snipe the DoF away from me immediately get called into some stupid war and lose the DoF. Too much money, too few building slots in this patch gotta spend 500 Ducats on some nonsense and screw yourself over if you're an AI I guess.

@@matthewmcneany The main issue is that the criteria to take Defender from someone is having more prestige than them. Think about how it would look in-world, would anyone really take a OPM or small theocracy in Germany seriously if they claimed that it was them, not France or Spain for example, that was the defender of the Catholic realm? Of course not, no matter how many fancy courtiers they've hired to pump up their prestige.

As Shewa, you are a Sunni nation when released. So go form the Holy Roman Empire or become emperor (the comments will decide) to compensate for the fact that you formed the caliphate with Portugal.
