Thank you for the in depth and honest review of pros & cons of Euclid Probe! A couple of suggestions- -swipe the probe off by moving the bed in the +Y direction, its a bit easier on the overall system - a little deeper in the deploy Z coordinate reduces the amount of pullup on the dock -there is a slot for the wiring in the mount to hide them and route them better. Use a piece of filament as peg to hold in it.

Nice walk through. How about turning the sensor 90deg, then mounting the actual probe dock on the Z rail so its pulling the sensor from a solid bar then do the bed level. Just a suggestion. This could work well for a core XY type printer.

Nice walk though of the Euclid. I’ve been using one since summer of 2021 on my CoreXY RailCore. On that machine, it has been fantastic! Really great when you use a variety of different print surfaces on a magnetic bed with REALLY strong magnets, as so many other probe types have issues in those scenarios. I’d agree it isn’t as good a fit for an i3 style moving bed printer.

A klicky or quickdraw probe would probably make more sense than the euclid on an i3 printer. It's incredibly cheap compared to the bltouch or euclid, magnets don't need to be nearly as strong to work and it's 2 wires as it doesn't need 5/24v. All it needs is a mount and firmware implementation.

Very interesting demo/tutorial. Thanks for sharing. Question, Chris. Why not mount the probe on the printer frame? Seems like there is enough room for it. No torque on the print bed then.
@ChrisRiley
@ChrisRiley Жыл бұрын
You could, but you would have to rework the mount.

Not really sure. At some point I'm sure this will happen, but I don't know how they are interfacing with it yet. We will see.

If the probe would be normally-closed (and maybe it is), you could just move up a little bit, home X and Y, then move X and Y above the probe and then move down until the probe snaps on and closes the circuit (stopping the moving down), then move up again (or sideways and then up if that's needed to release the probe), then move to the center of the bed and use the probe to actually home Z. That would avoid the need to home all the way at the top and only then grab the probe.

The Euclid probe has a PCB, mechanical switch, magnets, and SMD's. A BLTouch is super lightweight and probably weighs the same or less. It's not like your removing the entire probe from the hotend and gaining extra build area. This is great if you like to mod your printer but not much else. IMHO.

Looks pretty inconvenient. I would be happy to learn about this thing in 2017, but in 2023 I only accept solutions which probe directly with nozzle.
@MisterkeTube
@MisterkeTube Жыл бұрын
Probing with the nozzle does require having a way to clean the nozzle before the probe (i.e. a brush or silicone wiper) and the correct logic to have the nozzle hot enough to allow cleaning, but not too hot as to damage the build surface when probing. Bambulabs has a pretty good setup, but many others are flawed and can cause major offsets if there's some oozed out filament sticking out of the nozzle. I prefer simple stuff like the Klicky probe, which is basically the open source sister of the Euclid. For the Ender 3 you have the KlackEnder derivative of the Klicky. Doesn't require the lengthy homing at the top shown in the video. I would expect that a similar approach would be possible with the Euclid to avoid that homing at the top.
@Country_Bubba
@Country_Bubba Жыл бұрын
@@MisterkeTube Yes, I have mine setup to "use probe" for homing along with safe homing. For homing, it homes XY in normal manner and then picks up the probe and homes in the center of the bed and docks the probe. Then when (if) you issue a G29, it picks up the probe and does mesh leveling in the normal manner.

@@MisterkeTube You can home to the Z-min instead of Z-Max. The issue that you will encounter is the dock coordinates /Z elevation will change if you change bed surfaces using Z-min as the frame of reference.

I have a problem with my klicky probe it deploy and stow just fine and do z offset calibration,but once I try to do Z aligning or bed leveling, it try ti dig a hole in my bed trying to deploy the probe, to goes past zero Z , while showing 1mm on the screen as I specified in the configuration file. And then you uploaded this video I followed it step by step. I took your mariln files and changed the pair minimum just to fit my printer, guess what still the same behavior, I don't understand why it goes below zero during leveling to deploy, it doesn't respect the software endstop what so ever.
@ChrisRiley

Huh, that's really strange. You're using Marlin? Is your offset a negative value?

Instead of vertically pulling the magents apart. Change the gcode to slide them apart. Less force on the bed. As others have said find a location to mount to the frame instead.

Omg, that's so old. Euclid is like from 2018... Based on the euclid idea, there is the klicky by jlas1. Based on both ideas, there is the KlickyPCB by taenas (aka Whoppingpochard) Then there is a very new "Beacon Probe/Scanner", this is current century 😂 Seems like you took your time off from the 3D printing world 😂
@Country_Bubba
@Country_Bubba Жыл бұрын
May be old tech, but sure works good on my ender5 with a glass bed. The probe references off the actual print surface and has proven very reliable and accurate. Just for reference, have used same type of switches for my cnc mill and have documented repeatability to .0001"s Then again, the beacon won't meet my criteria of detecting the actual print surface. Not only that, fabricated my own parts by 3d printing. Simple in design and manufacture so it perfectly meets my needs.
