When I watch these I sometimes wander about the contractors building them back in the day, all their efforts that went into construction, they must have thought these cathedrals of retail would be around long after they were gone. Little could they have known that many would be torn down within their lifetimes. It might be quite interesting to get an interview with builders of a mall to get their perspectives on the decline and fall.

I have seen a lot of these "dead mall" videos here and other channels; however, nothing has yet to hit me quite as emotionally as near the end of this video. The part where he is walking towards the end of the mall where the building has been busted out where the doors once were, and the light from the sunset is flowing in. Just chilling. I hope he took some actual photos of that as it could be an award winning photo.

The closing music was chilling, but his timing was great because as he turns and walks toward the sun, the music changes from haunting to acknowledgement and celebration that the future always comes. I've listened to it 25 times at least.

The Euclid Square Mall is close to Cleveland, but it’s located in Euclid, Ohio. I grew up going to the Great Lakes Mall in Mentor, but I came to this Mall, too. My Dad works right beside the Mall so we would meet him at the mall after he’d get off work. I remember the seating area with the fan-like sculpture. I remember waiting in there for my Dad and thinking it was so cool since it was in a ‘pit’. Lol We stopped going there in the 90’s when the Ashtabula Mall opened up, but I still have memories of this Mall. I knew the Randle Park Mall and the Richmond Town Center. I pray the Great Lakes Mall beats the odds and stays open for years to come!

Ace, If you'd like to research and explore what's now Severance Town Square I have intricate knowledge of the property -- including a binder of construction plans and photos for the 1999 remodel and conversion into strip shopping. Used to plow snow for them and parts of the original 1960's shipping/receiving tunnel and employee break rooms are still intact. Great video as usual!

I rode my bike there when it opened and yea, I was an early Mall-Rat. When I had money, I would buy records, eat and other stuff. I think I seen the A New Hope at Euclid Mall and got a strobe and black light at Spencer's. It was a "Happening Place", it wasn't that big but it was OUR mall! I seen it again in 04 and knew her days were numbered. Kids will never know what they missed. Now, I live where another mall is dying and I miss the days that are going away.

Thank you so much for this. I’ve been so sad lately because the Euclid Square Mall was an important part of my childhood. I live in Euclid, and I’ve had to drive by, watching it become less and less. I have such fond memories and now they’re preserved. I loved the old images in the beginning - they brought it all back. PS: to those who asked about the song at the end, it’s “One of These Mornings” by Moby. One of my favs!

The store with the yellow football goalpost is northeast Ohio's oldest operating sports retailer called "FAN4LIFE" they moved out of Euclid sq.mall on November 7th 1999 into newly remodeled Richmond mall up the street, stayed loyal to that mall until January 2020, and now CURRENTLY call Great Lakes mall there home next to Dillard's and Tony Saccos pizza. 33 years selling great sports apparel to Cleveland fans....simply amazing!!!

One of my first jobs as a teenager was at Winkleman's at the Euclid Square Mall. It was owned by Petrie's, a woman's clothing store (MJ Carroll brands) popular in the 80's and into the late 90's. They went out of business just before the turn of the century. The store was located near the Diamond Men's Store and the shuttered location is clearly shown at 6:22 - 6:30.

I have probably watched this video all the way through 3 or 4 times. Every time, without fail, that last part of the half-demolished space mixed with the vaporwave music in the background mixed with the sunset shining through the remnants of the entrance brings me to tears. I never once saw this mall in person, as I live hours away in the St. Louis area, but what I would give to have seen it now. Anthony, if you ever see this, this is my favorite video of yours by far. This is the only video on KZfaq that can bring me to tears. The cinematography is absolutely stunning and the abandoned-feel of the mall gives me a feeling I don't think I can experience anywhere else. Nothing, and I mean nothing, can hit me as emotionally hard as this video can. I truly applaud you for your ability to make such amazing content, and this video is my case and point of that statement. Thank you, Anthony.

On a side note, after some research and watching many videos, I think the formula for a mall does still work, but it all about location, and you can't have more than 1 mall within about a 100 mile span, I notice most dead malls, or struggling ones, have other malls nearby, or in neighboring towns/cities.

Very Haunting. The sad death of not only a place of family happiness, joy and fun, but an entire era of warm, charming and happy Americana. Three decades of life a D joy now just a ground up heap of twisted steel, broken glass, wood fragments, and dust drifting in the breeze.

Let's not forget that there's newer malls around, like Legacy Village, Beachwood Place, and I believe just recently in Orange Township, I think there's one that just opened about a few weeks ago, and I know that name was mentioned, but I keep forgetting it. Parkwood or something? Anyway, yeah...the days of indoor malls are certainly numbered. Look at some of them here on the west side of town. Parmatown Mall is gone, it's now replaced by Shoppes of Parma, which is almost all drive-up stores now. Then there's Westgate, which also was transformed into a similar shopping center. However, the west side of Cleveland holds on to their malls better than the east side, apparently.

Nice the area had a role in WWII. Where I'm at (Mesa, AZ), they trained pilots for WWII. Mesa had Falcon Field and Williams AFB south of where Superstition Springs Mall and Power Square (outlet mall) are located. Both operate as regional airports. From what I heard, the delay in completing the Superstition Freeway east of the mall was from looking for old artillery.

Incredible video. The slow walk from the intact portion to a pile of rubble hurts my heart. It’s like a POV shot of being a pall bearer for my childhood.

It’s so ironic how an Amazon fulfillment center is being build where this mall was. Online shopping truly killed malls.

Oh that's awful. Thanks but also not thanks for telling me that. I used to work at one of the Amazon Fulfillment Centers. Me and both my roomates did at different times. The longest any of us lasted was 1 and a half months (and was me).

@holeheadmole isn't complex at all... every bit of what you stated, every excruciating moment our society has to endure with respect to cultural differences between whites and blacks, blacks and whites... is at this point, sorta necessary. a race which has been completely beaten, subjugated, and disadvantaged doesn't just turn up middle-class when that oppression ends. it takes time, quite a bit of time actually... decades. a deep cut can happen in the blink of an eye but the scar it leaves can take a lifetime to fade... sometimes, even longer.

The sytyle of this video highly reminds me of Dan Bell's "Dead Mall series", even the music is similar. Great work!

Great job documenting when the Mall began :-) and when it ended :-( Hate seeing the old malls being torn down but I guess that progress.

This video was very somber, and a very good tribute to a once great mall. With all of the malls that will potentially fail in the next decade, you should be very busy.
