So much discussion about Deok Sun and Taek over Jung Hwan. I never had a problem with it. Taek was socially reserved and awkward, but he had a good gentle heart. The reason Taek made more sense is easy. The series did an excellent job of conveying it, but too many people had their heart set on Jung Hwan. Here's why Taek ended up with Deok Sun...Taek needed her. She was everything Taek wasn't. Jung Hwan was smart and strong. He was going to be fine, but Taek needed Deok Sun. Remember Jerry McGuire...They completed each other. I loved their pairing. Jung Hwan seemed to know this and being the good friend stayed out of the way...timing and destiny played a role too, but he made no trouble for them making Jung Hwan all the more of a special character. 😊

what hurt the most in this was atleast jung hwan could confess to duk seon.. and left the decision to duk seon whom to choose... bt he made such a big sacrifice for his friend... it jst broke me.. :'(

I’m an Arab but the connection I felt while watching this drama was unbelievable. I remember being a kid and my grandmother gives me food, fruits, and whatever we have and asks me to take it to our neighbors and then they give me anything they have and asks me to take it home to my grandmother so it was similar to the first episodes of the drama. I also remember how we used to sit outside the house with the fruits we have or the sweets we made while watching the people who come and go across us. It also reminded me of how we listen to the radio to know the news and what’s happening around the world or in our country. And us going to our neighbor’s house and play board/card games and watch tv together or play the old video games after coming back from the grocery while having ice cream and snacks. And how we all used to go to the school together every morning. I miss those simple days. This is the thing that makes reply 1988 so great, it was a family based drama and it was literally the most heartwarming drama ever, it touched my soul and heart with every single episode. The plot was not about who will end up with who, it was about families, neighbors, best friends and their youth. it was beautifully shown how they were always by each others sides. It was about family bond, parents and their children. It was about the struggles and hardships in life. It was about a period of time and stories that will forever leave a great impact in my heart.

JUST MY OPINION: If you look carefully duk seon cared for taek from the beginning until her friends told her that sunwoo also likes her. She was confused abt her feelings and started liking sunwoo and later same happened with jung pal. She was confused bc that was her first time hearing that someone actually likes her so she was confused. We all know jung pal and duk seon moments were more than taek and duk seon. But only if taek was not so busy and was a normal students like the rest of his friends we could have seen duk seon and taek moments more. Jung pal actually had a huge chance since taek was always busy and when duk seon gave him pink shirt on his bday he could have directly confessed her and also when they had a movie date and yes,they would have become a couple. Though,Jung pal cared her he hesitated it from the begining and later even more when he knows that taek also like duk seon. But taek was unaware of it and kept on liking duk seon endlessly until he finds out that jung pal also likes her. Taek took a step back bc he didn't want to lose his friend. This sweet boy was so excited for his 1st movie date with duk seon but he cancelled only for jung pal sake. Taek waited her for 5 YEARS. Unlike jung pal who had all the time with duk seon there was actually no WAITING GAME for him. Still he was hesitating. Can't you guys see taek deserve her more than jung pal. If you hesitate to share wht you feel for someone you love what's the point? When dong hwi told duk seon that it doesn't matter who likes her what matters the most is who actually she likes. She realized that she had feelings for taek. Otherwise why would she make food for taek and take care of him when they went to China? Why would she go to taek room when her leg was injured before they had 1st kiss? Why would she stay at taek's room and watch him sleep? Till then taek didn't even confessed her. It didn't happen like sun woo and jung pal like if they like her she also developed feelings for her. Duk seon had genuine feelings for taek so did taek. We were shown in epi 18 how jung pal ran towards duk seon to watch concert everyone's heart breaked watching that but can we see how taek ran superfast towards her he didn't even came in a car. He was in the middle of the game he ran towards her just not be late and yes he reached just before jung pal. Taek even went to see jung pal and asked his permission ( aww this sweet guy

I’m here for Bo Ra noona and Sun Woo. Bo Ra’s personality is very much my ideal woman and Sun Woo’s efforts insipires me a lot as a man. Both characters were smart and making lots of money from being a doctor and a lawyer.

the ending was not disappointment tho, junghwan had all the chances to confess to deok seon but he didn't do it and when he already had the courage, it was too late already. Taek was willing to give up everything for deok seon, the movie scene was a perfect example. Maybe Taek needed and wanted Deok Seon than Junghwan did.

I wasn't shocked when Taek and Deoksun end up together because there was a scene where Deoksun and Taek were in China and they took a photo and fast forward to the future where old Deoksun told her husband how he must be so happy at that time, I don't want to believe but it's a hint that maybe they will end up with each other, a part of me wished that nah maybe it will really be Junghan she will end up with but I was left heartbroken with the finale and they didn't even show how Junghwan is doing.

I was so broken for junghwan but i know that taek needs dokseun more. And it consoles me to know that dokseun and junghwan ended up together in real life tho. Like the heccckkk my shippp 😭

I was a big fan of Jung Hwan and it broke my heart cause he totally was not into her like Taek, he did like her a lot but he could not confess , not sure because Taek like her as well and he would of been a better guy for her or because he did not want her as bad as Taek wanted her, hard to tell , I fell in love with Jung Hwan he was also a kind loving son and friend......... I think they make a great couple , and in real life even a better pair......... but in the drama I was glad her and Taek came together, she was good for him..

the only kdrama where the main couple is undecided and NO DEVELOPMENT AT ALL while the other side couples develop really fast and even more scene than the main couple which the viewers also don't know who the main couple is. The most frustrating drama ever, we at least I wait like crazy for every week but always disappoint at each of every episodes. ps : I do enjoy this drama, i mean the heartwarming and funny part of it.
